Saw Saturn tonight, and it's rings!! Best view was apparently on Friday night just gone but it was cloudy when I remembered to look then. Everything I read said you needed a telescope to see the rings but there they were - beautiful.
There is a video recording of the sight from a telescope in The Canaries on SLOOH.com
Will.it still be visible Monday, I was given a telescope and never used it. Which way shall I look?

Sorry for that. If you have a smartphone install the app GoogleSky, really a must-have !
A what and a what????
visible now. At the moment look to NW of moon, heading down towards horizon now - rings visible again by naked eye - hope you spot it. It's the brightest star anywhere near the moon.
Actually, I think you are looking at Jupiter, not Saturn. If you look at the moon right now (it's just gone 11.00 pm) and look diagonally down to the right, the bright object you can see is Jupiter, with Mars almost directly below, halfway to the horizon. Saturn is currently in the south-east, about the same height above the horizon as Jupiter, very visible but not quite as bright!
Oops. I bow to anyone with any knowledge of astronomy, my knowledge is very minimal. I saw a bright light in the sky last night, thought it was the 2nd coming, looked online and found an article saying Saturn was moving E to W and would go below the horizon about 1am. That fitted with what I could see and ................
So what I have seen is Jupiter and it's halo ring?
Thanks Gatta - unfortunately I can't see anything to the SE at the moment - blocked by neighbouring buildings and I don't fancy wandering the streets in my PJs at midnight!
Best not Tamara, could produce reports of sightings of a foreign object!
