The four Vets Surgeries listed on the poster have a campaign between 1st Mat - 30th June, to have your dog vaccinated for Rabies, and chipped.

Chipping's a good idea but you still can't beat a good old-fashioned collar with the dog's name and owner's name and phone number tag. You can contact the owner direct and they will always, in our experience, come and collect them.
We live in a popular holiday area and every year we come across one or two lost dogs. That phone number is the quickest and least stressful way of reuniting worried dog with frantic owner.

Cons = can be taken off by unscrupuous persons
Chip
Pros = invisible, cant be easily removed
Cons = bit more expensive than collar & tag, not obvious

Also if it's chipped and you dog or cat is stolen, there will come a time when they need a visit to the vets. A quick check will tell if it's their pet or not.
But here lies the problem, I've never been to a vet yet, that checked the chip. It should be mandatory, the first thing they do.
All my dogs and cats are chipped. If Pirata doesn't behave he'll be deep fried!
We were told by our vet that annual rabies vaccinations for dogs were mandatory in the Canaries. They put an official stamp in the pet passport.
They are correct. I may not be but I think the fine is around 2500,00 Euros if your dog is not chipped. Can someone give the correct figure

Oh no you won't. He escaped today down a tunnel under the pot belly stove in the sitting room. He nearly made it to the main road before he was recaptured! Nightmare!
