April 30th marks the deadline for banks to collect and digitalize up-to-date identification documents for all account holders, as per existing legislation. For Spaniards, this means the DNI national identity card;
For foreign residents, their residency card or passport.
In some cases, clients will also be asked for information regarding their economic activities
as part of new requirements to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
Accounts that do not meet the requirements will be blocked on May 1.
But after three months, these blocked accounts will be transferred to a different category known as “cuentas de orden;†recovering one`s money at that point could be more complicated and require additional paperwork.

Tamkid i think it does as stated on a thread on here somewhere( sorry but cant remember) we had our passport details taken last year when we had to pop into solbank ( yes i know its not called that now) ;D,they just said updating system ,so i would pop in it cant do any harm

My bank said it is only needed if not done recently. From the article in the earlier link I take that as being the last five years. You provided ID when you open the a/c and that is on file.

If your lawyer has power of attorney he must send his details as well
I removed him as power of attorney as it is no longer required and sent scanned copy of passport on Tuesday, but only for my wife as mine had been seen recently and was up to date
Make sure you do not ignore it or your account will be blocked
Checked with Sabadell this morning. They say they are not looking for updated documents but yes, if the passport you currently hold is not the one they have a record of on file, then you should present the new one for copying ( and whenever it is changed again.). When I heard about this yesterday, it was another bank , not Sabadell that was mentioned.....
I am with Banca March. It is not a joint account. I have had no communication from them regarding this.
Thanks Roar, but the email I got from Can is the email for a particular staff member in Solbank in Caleta not just the general email from the website. Sent off the info just to be on the safe side and recieved a reply just saying thanks, so hoping all is in order.
