Title: Naturist man wanting to be "near naked" at other times too....
Post by: swimmingtrunks on March 30, 2015, 20:35:34 PM
Hi folks  :)

I am hoping to holiday in Fuerteventura in the next few months. I am attracted by the opportunties for morning cycling, and for the beaches and general tolerance of nudity on the island.

I am a 45 year old man and seeking a bit of advice.  I imagine that I can be nude in lots of places on the island, but essentially on beaches or in quiet areas.  I don't wish to offend people, but I am travelling a long way for the holiday and wish to be at least part-naked when I can be.  I'm thinking particularly aboout "transition" situations between non-nude and nude situations.

Please can anybody give advice on the following ideas:
(1) Is it acceptable to be shirtless, but with shorts, in shopping areas - other than perhaps in cafes/restaurants/bars?
(2) Would it be acceptable to wear a t-shirt and only swimming trunks (square-cuts or speedos) in shopping areas, or residential/appartment areas of Corralejo, maybe even on public bus services?
(3) Will it be acceptable to wear only Speedo-type swimming trunks on cycle rides?
(4) Is it acceptable to wear a thong swim brief to walk along beaches that are considered textile?

Thanks for your advice, folks.
I promise to go naked where I can.  8)

1.  People do do shirtless in these areas - but much nicer to slip a shirt or t-shirt on.  Sets a good example to those people that should defo cover up on the street.
2.  As above.
3. Think this is your choice - but think about sun/wind-burn and also (fingers crossed it won't happen) but should you come off your bike you gonna make a mess of yourself.  So better to be safe then sorry.
4.  Defo especially if you have the bod.  But me thinks speedos much nicer than thongs especially on a male and over 21 :-)
If you wouldn't do it at home then don't do it here - other than naked on the beach!! Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks for the advice, Snowdrop.
I will heed the advice and make the most of the nudity that I can enjoy.
I think I had secretly hoped that men in just swimming trunks was fairly acceptable, even away from beaches.
If I do go trunks only at times, it will be on bike rides - so long as this doesn't raise any unpleasant attention.

I suspect it may vary a bit. I can only speak for Corralejo, where there are signs in some shops and supermarkets asking you to dress properly. But then it's a 'proper' town, not 100% dedicated to tourism. I personally feel a bit peeved when tourists treat 'my' high street like a beach :(. 1 & 2 are probably fine in apartment complexes though and shirtless is OK on bar terraces. 3 & 4 are pefectly acceptable but do listen to those warnings about the sun. We're just 100 km from Western Sahara here.

There are naturist accommodation possibilities in Corralejo. Check out Infiniti/Fuerteventura Sun Club and  and Gran Hotel Natura. The latter has direct access to the clothes-optional beach.

Sorry for sounding sceptical but being a naturist means being without clothes and we love the freedom of doing so on the dune beaches outside Corralejo. The OP wishes to be "at least part-naked when I can be" which sounds a bit fishy to me, part naked!! never heard of the term before. If you are a naturist you enjoy being nude in situations that allow it and where it does not offend others. Sounds to me that the OP is more of an exhibitionist than a naturist!!!

Hi there.
Nothing fishy about my intentions, I'm simply asking where it is acceptable to be shirtless, for situations when when I cannot be naked, like on a beach.

Based on 3 months of living on the rock as a nearly identical person, though primarily in El Cotillo:

1) Yes - shirtless is not an issue in most tourist based areas.
2) Yes - I have seen this several times.
3) Yes - for some, you are considered over dressed.
4) Yes - people simply don't care.

Enjoy your holiday.

Triple H, You must have either been walking around the wrong hotel in the wrong town or you need to go to Specsavers.

The Gran Natura is situated on the beach and has a rear door (adjacent to the pool bar), which opens onto the beach. Admittedly, the beach is quite rocky close to the Gran Natura and you need to walk a couple of hundred yards west for comfortable sand near the shoreline. The Gran Natura is the last property as you leave Corralejo heading west and there is nothing but beach until you reach the Tres Islas, apart from a couple of bars and the wind surfing/kite flying centre. We have stayed at the Gran Natura several times and each time regularly walked out of the hotel onto the beach Au Natural as did others staying in the hotel.

Got the right hotel and dont need specs lol. Sorry about the misinterpretation of the word beach. I was expecting to see a beach with sand, not a beach that is just rocks. My apologies

We checked this place out a couple of visits back, & I can't say that I was impressed with the "Beach"  To be fair, we parked up on the spare land at the side of the complex & viewed things from there.  Didn't see anything other than rocks, maybe we should have walked a bit further

It's true that the sand doesn't start immediately but naturists are used to walking to the beach. The textiles always grab the most accessible bits. In this case it's all clothes optional. There are pods close by that are sandy and comfy. And rock pools within metres, perfect for a cloudy naturist afternoon. And the gorgeous sandy beach really isn't far away.

Walking from CML to Costa Calma is one thing (Tide permuting) However I doubt if you could walk too far North from Grand Natura before copies of the Sun start getting ripped up in anger. Heading  South into the Dunes Park should give you no grief.
At a rough guess, I would say its about a 20min (Textile) walk from Infiniti to the GN

I've never timed it but Infiniti and GHN are quite close so it can't take long. Just go north past Arena Hotel onto the main road. Turn right and keep walking until you get to the last hotel, GHN . You can strip in the car park there, even if everyone else is clothed. Something round you (towel, pareo?) past the RIU hotels or at the beach bars. Otherwise, walk naked until you run out of beach many km on.

It can be done barefoot if you are reasonably hardy and careful.

About 1300metres from Infiniti down the FV1, to the foreshore behind Natura, so it should be about 15 mins walk.
If you were to walk it (we'd be most unlikely to try) it would be interesting to cut across the dunes on the opposite side of the road. Same distance as following the tarmac, but I can't see any reason you couldn't be naked for a whole kilometre. Assuming you're actually allowed to walk there.

There is a path that across the dunes. It starts near the roundabout on the FV1 just down from Infiniti and finishes at the roundabouts by the Riu hotels. I am fairly sure that it is an official path. There is a sign at the town end and it is marked by stones for quite a bit of its length. It is a bit tricky at the far end, it takes a twisted route through the dunes but there are marker posts for guidance. Have seen several naked walkers using this route. There are lots of other footpaths through the dunes, not sure of the legality of these but they are quite clearly well walked.

Agreed on the walk across the dunes. It is very pleasant and relaxing. The dunes are fun to run up and down on. And you can walk for hours. Usually I start in Corralejo and then head south. Within minutes of crossing the road, one can move to a more natural state. Then it is more than 6 km of sand, sun and solitude. I've occasionally passed people within speaking distance, but a no time have I felt I was "invading" their space.

At some point, you might be ready to a refeshment. Cross the road on the east side. (I've done this in several states of dress) and head to the sea. Then head north along the coast. There are several snack bars. As recommended by another poster, if you pass the big hotels, the small snackbar near  the cots has no issue with the naturist look. However, the choices of food and drink are limited.

Have fun!

Just one thing to add - your phone map app or whatever it's called. I don't think it would be difficult to go off course between the dunes and hillocks, you won't always see your landmarks. It's not exactly the outback, but you could waste a lot of time heading the wrong way.
My cheap(£60) feature phone has GPS and compass. It shows my position on the map, zoom in and out to keep going in the right direction. You won't find me in that area, though. The car's a much easier way to get to any beach.
