Why 2am for changing the clocks? I was told as a child that this time was chosen as fewer people were awake/at work in the early hours of the morning. This may not be so relevant now as we have more of a 24/7 society.
I've worked through a few clock changes in my time.
If the change was at midnight, when the hour changes in the autumn then you would be adding the hour to Saturday night rather than the Sunday which would probably add to the complications.
The 2am could be a relic of WW2 when they had double summer time
It was during the first world war that Germany became the first country to implement DST, on 30 April 1916, in order to save fuel for the war effort. Thereafter, other countries followed suit and the concept was adopted by Britain. DST was first used in the UK on 21 May 1916.
The 2am Sunday Morning alter time is just to keep any disruption to a minimum, the time and day of the week least is happening.
