Title: mountain Caleta 2015. I need opinions.
Post by: StefanV on February 05, 2015, 00:21:38 AM
Hi Guys,
I would appreciate if anyone could give us an honest opinion on how it is to live in a house or apartment on mountain Caleta.
What's the wind and temperature like?
Can you easily walk down and up again to and from the center?
Possibly more crime potential as the houses and apartments are a bit more secluded?
Anything else?
Thanks!

Hi Stephan, walking up as far as the Fiesta (Old Montecastillo centre) is fine , any further and you would struggle when it is hot. Walking down is fine from the top of the mountain. If you are thinking of buying up there factor in the price of a lot of taxis. There are plenty of break ins in Caleta just take the same precautions as you would at home. Most break ins go un reported.

Hi Fifi,
Thank you so much.

I am really surprised about the break-ins. This is not something we experience here in Costa Calma. Is it typical to the mountain area, or is it everywhere in Caleta?

How's the wind up there? Much stronger?
Can anyone shed some light on the aircraft noise as well?

All I can think off is that the view is probably quite spectacular. Or am I wrong here as well?

The higher up you go the more you will need transport - own car or lots of taxis. I have quite a few friends who live on the top half of the mountain and very few of them ever walk to from Caleta.
Obviously, the wind is stronger the higher you go, but the views improve. My advice is to try walking up in different temperatures/wind strengths and ask yourself, honestly, how you would feel about doing it on a regular basis - especially with shopping bags! Don't rush into anything, take your time and check, check, check.
Also check the aircraft noise for yourself - there are plenty of flights. The one good thing is that the airport is closed overnight.

Although I don't live in that part of Caleta, I do cycle up to the highest developed part of the 'mountain' regularly, and the views are actually quite impressive to all three sides. I do it for fun and exercise, but I'd agree with the others that having to do the journey back up on foot with a couple of bags of shopping would be a pain. Taxis are not expensive, but if you didn't want to go as far as getting a car, how about a moped/scooter or such? On the plus side there are some real bargains to be had in terms of property, and if you can see past the eyesore of the incompleted phase near the top, it largely looks quite a nice development.

In my opinion, and that of all residents I've discussed it with, aircraft noise is certainly not intrusive, and not a problem. Yes, you hear them, but even under the flight path normal conversation is possible, nothing like living near Gatwick or Heathrow!

I've not heard first hand of any break-ins etc, and we feel very safe where we are, but it makes sense to take the usual precautions re security. I'd certainly not consider Caleta any worse than other urban areas on the island, and there is a good, visible police presence. As the previous posters have suggested, do have a look yourself, and do it with an open mind. Good luck, whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you!

Thank you all very much for your answers.
I have some food for thought now.

Hi Stephan
I have just returned from 2 weeks at caleta de fuste in search of a property.
We did consider Chipmunk mountain but changed our minds after walking half way up.We looked around Caleta but after visiting a number of properties decided these would be a bit noisy in season and a bit over our budget. Then we walked up to costa antigua on the coastal promenade and viewed a number of properties. We purchased a apartment in a gated community called antigua bay with about 70% uk owners. The complex is clean with childrens pool and swimming pool and tended gardens.
As the EU slips against the pound there has never been a better time to buy,
We found fuerteventura residences more than helpful  .The team of three english speaking ladies did everything for us and took the worry out of our hands.
Do not wait too long properties for sale are getting snatched up quickly and demand is outstripping supply which will soon push prices up.
Best of luck.
Joe.

Hi Joe,
Thanks!
I am a bit curious though why you changed your mind about the mountain area.
Is it something you were told (and didn't like)
We do have a car, so that's not a problem.
Thanks again,
Stefan

The problem was the walk up the hill especially  after a drink at night when you can not use your car.I have had a cheap holiday at caleta dorada half way up the hill and even that was a struggle .
