I want to buy a finca in rural fuerteventura. The estate agent hasn't shown us the boundaries although I know I the land area dimensions. I asked a solicitor to find a map of the boundaries but all she's done is come back with a report stating the names of the neighbours and again stating the size of the land area. I've asked for clarification from the lawyer about the boundary but just get no reply. What I'd like to know is whether this is a common thing in fuerteventura where in rural areas properties are sold without knowing the property boundaries? it seems odd because if the land area is known they must need something to quantify that land area. The lawyer speaks English but language problems don't seem to be allowing us to get to the facts of the situation. Can someone offer some advice? thank you.
Some people here do see the "language problem" as a convenient excuse for failing to do their job. I'd sack your lawyer if I were you.
There's a register that's supposed to show exact boundaries. It's called the Catastra or something very similar. I believe it's kept at the Ayuntamiento. I suggest you go along there, with an interpreter if necessary. I dare say you'll have to pay, but as a prospective buyer you must have the right to a copy.
I hate to say it but the lawyer might be dragging her feet because the property was never registered properly. That happened a lot in the past, I'm told, but now the authorities are getting strict.
Thank you, that's very helpful I will look into that.
What if it's not registered?
