Title: Playa Blanca, NORTH of the Airport but SOUTH of Rosario
Post by: isleswing on October 29, 2014, 13:02:10 PM
Each year, our first view of this beach, after leaving the airport, towards Corralejo, tells us we've properly arrived on the Island.
This year, we finally visited it, and glad we did!
Very easy to drive to. Good parking. This is actually a Blue Flag beach, so there's toilets and showers, and a long wooden walkway across the sand, as well as lifeguards. No cafe/ bar or any other businesses, though.
It's a long, white sand beach, nice and smooth & level, water's as safe as it can be..
A really quiet spot, considering it's convenient position. Barely a dozen groups of people in sight.
Fascinating views, with Puerto del Rosario spreading along the coast only a couple of kilometres along. I suppose it must be accessible from that end as well, but the southern approach is by far the better.
Great views of the undersides of aircraft, too.
It's a shame that old hotel isn't being used,it would open up the area, and be appreciated by more people.

Well worth a visit.

Brilliant beach - we only discovered it a few weeks ago after driving past it over the last 25 years. We had been to Los Molinos for a swim followed by lunch, but the sea was too rough. Back to Playa Blanca in 25 mins, great swim with crystal clear water, then back to Los Molinos for the always superb lunch at Casa Pon.
I believe the parador has been taken over and is being refurbished, but no idea of timescale.

The Parador Hotel has been taken over by a major hotel group, and it is going to be refurbished.
