Title: Quickest way to get online etc
Post by: gattaca66 on June 14, 2014, 09:55:41 AM
Just moving into our new place in Caleta, and we need to get the phone and internet connected as quickly (!) as possible. There is a landline in place but the number has been disconnected when the previous owners left. So, we need a landline connected and the best broadband service we can get. I understand the line is provided by Telefonica, so is it quicker/easier to order via Movistar and get their internet package? Best done online or by going into the shop in Atlantico?

I also understand Europa offer a pretty similar service - have seen it working well with set top box at friends place - but might it be slower getting it installed as they don't own the line?

I know this has been asked and discussed before, but it's an immediate issue for me, things change, and it don't want to go over all the old threads. Any informed, experienced advice is greatly appreciated...living without the internet is a pain, you can only use hotspots for basic stuff! Thanks in advance, Alan.

Just go to the Movistar office and order. Ours was installed in a matter of days.
I bought an LG smartTV and use the browser to access FILMON - works fine.

They will tell you in the Movistar office that it can take up to 15 days.  But a friend of mine ordered it just about 3 weeks ago, and it was set up four days after the order. He already had a dormant land line in his house.

I have a feeling I've heard you get charged 21% VAT if you order online. Order from one of their shops and you get 7% IGIC (if anything - not sure). Remember to add line rental to any monthly charges quoted by Europa etc; and don't confuse "Telefonica in English" with Telefonica! It isn't the same company! But once you have a contract, ring Telefonica's 1004 helpline and keep saying "English" or "Inglès" and you'll be answered by someone who has a good command of English but not always an easily understood accent.
