Hi we are moving to fuerte very soon,
The question is can you apply for residency without actually being there.

I very much doubt it. But then why would you need to do that? You have three months to apply from your date of arrival.

Thanks for your reply. We are bringing some furniture with us and maybe a car, as I understand it the import charges are cheaper if you are resident.
Regards Steve.

Oh I see. No, it isn't residency that you need but yes, you do have special allowances for personal, pre-owned belongings during the 12 months following your arrival. By pre-owned, I mean that things you've bought recently (can't remember how recently) have to have duty paid in full.

You have to convert your NIE into a NIF by registering it with the Haciendo and you need to get your Empadronamiento sorted at the town hall - ask for the letter that states your arrival date and where you're coming from, for import purposes.

But if you use a reliable company, such as Woodside or C&K, they'll help you to some extent.

Thanks for your reply, we don't have a date yet but it should be in the next couple of months, can I convert my NIE number to a NIF while still in England. Also are the two companies you mentioned removal firms. Thanks again. Steve
