Temperatures continue to rise on Monday and Tuesday, and will remain at very high levels at least until Friday, May 16 , when they could begin to decline.

The spokesman AEMET indicated that the values of maximum temperature - above the usual for this time of year - that could be achieved would be between 34 º C and 37 º C in the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and mediocrities of Great Canaria and Tenerife, and would be somewhat lower in the western islands .

This episode of high temperatures could be accompanied by calimas due to the contribution of dust suspended in the African air mass . The most affected islands would Lanzarote , Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.

PS, They have Dust Masks for sale at Norte y Sur  8)

According to the forecasts I have seen, yes, high temperatures during the week, but the wind is said to be coming from N or NE - I would suggest that this does not suggest a calima.
Who knows?

Woe's link includes the words "The statement from AEMET explains that the "episode" will begin on Sunday when the winds from the north at low and medium altitude, affecting the archipelago right now, shift to blow from the east and south...."

ElTiempo is now forecasting only 21/22 degrees max for Mon/Tues - rather a big change from the 34/37 forecast!  And then getting cooler.

You're supposed to take the temperature in the shade, NOT in direct sunlight, which can blow your thermometer up  :o

Neville - my cat lives outside in the garden. He was damaged as a kitten and his diaphragm is ruptured so he struggles to breath. The only time he asks to come in doors is when there is Calima. Last night he slept in the house, first time this year
