The island's tourism authorities expect to break the 2.5 million barrier this year, which would be no mean feat given that it means increasing last year's visitor numbers by a hefty 300,000. The results for the first quarter give cause for optimism, however, with the total amounting to just under 450,000, which is 52,000 more than in the same period in 2013. Flights from 16 different countries brought tourists to the island during the period, with Germany once again topping the table in terms of the nationalities. The publication of the 2.5 million target for this year brought a less than enthusiastic reaction from unions representing the hospitality sector. Union sources say that the extra tourists might suffer poor service standards unless hotels and other sector businesses take on extra staff to cope with the anticipated increase. The unions have repeatedly voiced concern that the upturn in tourism fortunes has not been accompanied by a reduction in the number of people out of work in Fuerteventura

Looking at Tripadvisor, they may have a point. Lots of reports from regular visitors that the hotels they have used before, are going down the nick. Not a problem where I go, It's German run & never changes
When you have to wait 40 minutes to get a drink in Barcelo, because they only have one Barman, I see their point.
Same at the Elba Golf Hotel. (5 Star) When THE BARMAN is off, they put anybody in thats available, whether they've done it before or not :o
At Chaplins you can get a pint a kebab and a bit of banter quicker than a Barcelo pint :P
