Title: Comings and Goings
Post by: Spike On Q on March 01, 2014, 11:57:00 AM
We seem to have quite a few new families moving to the Island - after so many people were forced to move back to the UK in 2013 for financial, lack of work and other reasons, lets hope the newcomers have better opportunities, especially as there are children involved

I hope your right though if the youth unemployment figures in the canaries are anything to go by then I would say that it would be a long time before opportunities returned to somewhat of a normal level.

Was it ever normal for unemployment to be within the 'norm'? I know there will always be some work-shy people, and square pegs that have difficulty fitting into round holes, but I had the impression that there had always been a problem with unemployment here. Maybe OK when a very small population raised goats or caught fish, but that changed well over 20 years ago.

The first time I set foot on the island was January 2012, though, so I don't know.

I know loads of people who have been working there for years, think you will find they are good at what they do.
