Title: TV Cables
Post by: Ernie on February 17, 2014, 21:05:21 PM
My newly bought LG tv requires a cable with a male F type screw connector on one end and a male standard aerial connector (is this called RF type ?) on the other end. Is there anywhere on the island more likely to have such a beast (or an adaptor to achieve the same) than Ideal ? I couldn't see one when I was there today.

Many thanks.

Which model is it Ernie? We just bought one 570 or 575 and it has a satellite connection and an RF connection.
The F type connector is usually for the built in Spanish satellite tuner, whereas the RF one is for channels received via aerial.

Deso,

Just bought the 32 inch 575 from Electron. The guy in the store told us that this would allow access to both the communal aerial and communal free-to-air satellite in our apartment block without the need for an external satellite box as this model has an internal satellite receiver. We'll see ....  ;)

So to connect the terrestrial aerial I need a lead with a standard female end going into the wall and a standard male end going into the TV. No sweat.

But for the satellite I need an F screw male connector (the one with wire sticking out) going into the TV and a standard male aerial end going into the wall. I don't really want to have to construct one myself if it is possible to buy one ready assembled. I've already seen them for sale on the amazon uk site for a couple of quid and will buy one when I'm home in a week or so if I can't find one here but would rather like to check out my new TV before I go hence seeking thoughts on where on the island might stock such an object.

If your communal satellite comes in with an RF socket then you want something like this......http://www.amazon.co.uk/RG59-Type-Satellite-Coaxial-Cable/dp/B0035FCQHM/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/RG59-Type-Satellite-Coaxial-Cable/dp/B0035FCQHM/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_2)

First port of call would be the chinese shops, if not there then try the satellite shop up behind Norty Sur.

My communal satellite does precisely as you state. Annoying but true.

I found the amazon link to that cable and if necessary will order one when I get home, but would have liked to give it a go whilst I'm here.

Satellite shop behind Nort-y-Sur ? I'll check it out - many thanks.

Check your wall plate first as some connect the lead using an F type screw on or a normal male RF aerial connection as Des said they can be got from the local Chinese shop, just make sure the inner and outer wires don't touch.
