Title: Certificado de Viaje (Empadronamiento travel section/page) soon to be redundant
Post by: TamaraEnLaPlaya on January 30, 2014, 00:06:30 AM
Quote from HolaBuzz online (BuzzFM):

The Spanish Government approved a measure on Friday, to do away with the need for travel residence certificates, Certificado de Viaje to be presented in order to qualify for discounted travel between the islands and other parts of Spain. In the future residents will no longer be required to produce copies of their Certificado de Empadronamiento para Viajar to receive the residents discount available in the Canary and Balaeric Islands, for travel within Spain.
You will still need to be registered on the Padron at your town hall in order to get the discount, but the onus is now on the travel agent, airline or ferry company to use the SARA automated system to check on your status on line.
Qualifying residents of the Canary Islands will show as being entitled to the discount, so you can confirm place of residence automatically at the time of booking.
However you must make sure that your registration doesn't lapse; in general terms European nationals are required to re-confirm their status at their local town hall every 5 years. No date has yet been given as to when the changes will take effect.

Red tape and paperwork being done away with/ life being made simpler? What are things coming to in Fuerte?  :o  Oh, mind you, no date has been given for implementation .............  ;D
Perhaps it will be like the motorway, the new bus stations etc - tantalisingly close but never quite there!

I can imagine turning you somewhere and claiming my discount - friendly booking clerk says "computer says NO!" - then what do I do.

Only a few weeks ago I still wasn't on the system in Playa Blanca [a year since my first Pad Viaje was issued]. Freddie accepted a copy of my Pad Viaje going but Armas wouldn't coming back!! [I just stood there and refused to move and the queue got longer, so they gave in]

Spike, I read it was from September, but I can't find where I read it now. I'll keep checking.
