Following on from the, a place in the sun thread, I would like to ask the forum peeps this! This obviously applies to those like myself who have yet to purchase there.
If you came "into money" where would you buy your dream home on the island and why etc?
I've had an e-mail from Euromillions to tell me I had a winning ticket from last night. I started to wonder how reliable the water and electricity supplies are for this place:

However, 2 numbers is only giving me £3.20 :( It's a start though
But to answer the question, definitely El Cotillo.
The first time we visited we stayed in Corralejo, took the bus to El Cotillo one day and decided we liked it.
Any time we've stayed in Corrie since we seem to spend half our time driving to Cotillo for the day.
In fact it was only once when we stayed in Costa Calma that we haven't spent time in Cotillo during a visit.
Without a doubt Lajares. Mid way between El Cotillo and Corralejo. Nice bars and restaurants and even a few shops springing up. Some great walks either easy or hard. All in all a nice place to be either to live or to holiday.
For sure El Cotillo!

Have say villaverde/lajares area appeals to me more nowadays. Near, but not too near a choice if some nice towns and villages, along with beaches "nearly" as good as those down South.
Lottery ticket sitting under the Buddha, and our fingers crossed for tonight's draw.
Cotillo, there is a certain kind of magic tranquillity to the place !
I think it may be the sound of the sea.
Might buy the Villa Winter & do it up ;D However, you didn't specify how much money I had come into
I love the island, but could never live on it. If I wanted to have a home in the sunshine, I'd buy in southern Spain. The mainland just has so many advantages in comparison.
Have started to come round to Tigers thinking ,we may sell ours (haha) if possible and buy in southern Spain more to do and easier to travel to other countries
Up to last year I would have said El Cotillo, unequivocally, BUT, we went to Gran Tarajal for a fortnight last November and were enchanted by the place. It's a proper Canarian market town; buzzing with life and friendly folk from dawn to late night; good eateries, and good shore fishing, due in part to low winds.
Not a sign of being hi-jacked by kiss-me-quick English seaside culture (if that's the right word for all things Blackpool).
The only thing missing is the sight of both rising sun and sunset: you have to wait for it to come over a mountain or see it dip prematurely below one.
The Bahamas 8)
Pajara - isolated until a few years ago so no development to talk of - lovely bars and restaurants, at 630 feet above sea level it is temperate all year round, neighbourly as long as you can speak the language, Ajuy, a National Monument, fishing village and great beach and swimming only 10 minutes away, Gran Tarajal only 20 minutes and the airport 45 minutes drive, free municipal pool, 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, bank, etc. etc.
The tourist buses arrive at 10am and have left by 2.30pm, otherwise it's you and the Majoraro population of generations. REAL FUERTEVENTURA!

Sounds real nice waggy.
Next time I'm racing past it, I won't and will take the small detour into it for a look around. ;)
Personally speaking right where I am now in Marina Village, Corralejo. It's January, I've just come after a BBQ on my patio overlooking the hills to the south, spent the afternoon sitting on my roof terrace watching the ferries come and go from the harbour in glorious sunshine. Just seen the weather in the UK is grim.
For me this is heaven and I don't think this programme or the 2 numpties in it did this place or the Island as a whole, justice!

Gran Tarajal is a lovely little town, almost untouched by trippers.
Gran Tarajal. Nearest hotel - Las Playitas, 5 Km away. Good public loos in the basement of the Padilla store, a rarity in Fuerteventura, cafe co leche 1.00 Euro and it's good, two good cake shops across the road, Loads of free parking but do look out for the 1/2 hour zones, they are very strict. Look at the town square - trees and a lovely fountain. Nice place to stroll, lunch, etc.
One of the best town beaches on the Island
Now a stop for a small Fred Olsen cruise ship, but it arrives on an ad hoc basis so not every week
Pajara is beautiful, we would love to buy there if we could find anywhere....very authentic and immaculate. We love it !

Spikes trying to offload one above
I agree it's a lovely part of the island. Been in the church a few times and stopped for a bevy at some of the bars in the main road. Also ate a couple of times in the restaurant on the beach in Ajuy when the leather skinned host with the hat used to run it, reminded me of a preserved James Coburn
Sadly houses are not for sale in Pajara - they or the land they are on have been owned by local families for generations and they will not part with them. Although we have many friends in Pajara having had an apartment there for 12 years we were forced to move down the road to Tuineje. Not quite the same but very nice area and local vecinos.
Plenty of houses around Tuineje, Tiscamanita, Gran Tarajal, etc
Forced Spike ?
We desperately wanted a house and garden in Pajara, dogs, cats, grand children, etc. - we looked around for two years with the help of the local community but nothing came up [lived in our little one bed holiday apartment - nightmare!]
Re - possessions are a plenty around here and we really had to move - so yes forced! But we ended up with our dream house - so everyone lived happily ever after
[We still go to Pajara for weddings, Christenings, funerals, fiestas, Romarias, etc. - it is our second home ]
That's the problem stopping us....we need 3 beds and space for dogs. looking like Caleta for us in the next few months, UK house on the market, fingers crossed, should be over by the summer, for good !
Plenty of country houses around in the province of Tuineje all with loads of land, infact sometimes too much!
We looked at a few but quite expensive, to be fair we were looking between Antigua and Tuineje. Mrs J needs good Internet for her job so we need to be in a town on municipal center, we walked around Tuineje and found it charming and absolutely spotless, but we couldn't find much property.....
