Title: FM Radio - English Speaking Stations
Post by: Ernie on January 13, 2014, 11:51:03 AM
Hi All,

I'm in the process of furnishing my new place in El Cotillo. Back here in the UK I have a decent quality but totally redundant FM radio and am wondering whether it might be worth bringing it out on my next trip.

Will I be able to pick up any English speaking commercial radio stations out there (broadcast from anywhere in the Canaries) and if so do they offer continuous daytime coverage or is it a case of a few hours here-and-there ?

My Spanish is improving but I'm a fair way off being able to listen to Spanish radio without getting a migraine so I won't bother packing it if the English language options are poor.

Very many thanks for any replies.

Ernie

There were fm stations but the Spanish decided that all stations had to have a license and did not issue any licenses to English fm stations. So you will not be able to pick up any English speaking stations on the radio.

If you want to listen to English stations you need to go online

Many thanks for the further replies.

Can I just clarify that buzzfm, powerfm and canaryuk are all receivable in FV via a traditional FM radio and not just via the internet ?

Thanks

Ernie

Canaryuk is not available via FM; only via internet.

The four I mentioned above are available on FM; I flick through them all when driving, and reception can be difficult around the mountains, of which there are many here !

By far the best station is Canaryuk, but is only available through the internet.
