Title: General Chat topic
Post by: PHo on January 05, 2014, 10:06:09 AM
Admin - In view of the fact that this section is increasingly being taken over by posts unrelated to the island, have you considered splitting it into two?
1 - General Chat related to Fuerteventura
2 - Daily Mail references and other mindless political invective unrelated to the island

This would allow those of us with no interest to ignore the second section completely.

We had a similar problem a few years ago with jand and her El Hierro posts, which you successfully dealt with by creating a separate environment section. It worked brilliantly.  jand is still at it alone and happy on environment, now with over 4000 cut and paste posts, and the rest of us can happily ignore it.

Great idea. It'll stop the moaners, and those of us with a vested interest in both Fuerteventura and the Uks current affairs can get on with our discussions without harassment.

Here here, you have my support on this one PHo

I don't agree. General chat is just that.

I don't know what your problem is with the Daily Mail. You can read exactly the same articles in at least 6 other National Newspapers, as I have proved earlier, including the Broadsheets.
It just happens that the DM icon is on my Toolbar, therefore quickest to get to. I suppose I could change it to The Telegraph if that makes you feel better.

I'm divided, I've seen this with other forums where these suggestions have been made and implemented but still people aren't happy.
You have to ask yourself where it would end with the creations of sub forums, answer is, it wouldn't.

Nothing against the Daily Mail, woe, or general chat, it's just that I don't want to read posts about UK immigration etc.
I am not suggesting a subforum but a new forum section, like environment, for Fuerte chat exclusively, so those who think like me can avoid the more general chat, and as stedge says, those of you who want to discuss UK immigration can get on with it without harassment, and without involving the rest of us.

Well I guess I would be for it, it would eliminate the "I'm being victimised trolls" a little bit more I suppose as they would have no reason to enter a UK chat forum.

Put this new Topic where the Gay Section is , that area doesn't get used for any purpose other than someone looking for a Shag or a bit of fiddling !

Good idea, PHo: in fact on some fora Politics and Religion are taboo because they generate so much discord. So a 'Handle with Tongs' board would be a good way of quarantining them.

General Chat - Fuerteventura:

Yesterday I went to the Chinese Shop in Matorral. When I drove off to take my usual short cut through Mercadona car park, I found the gates locked  :'(

Please let's have a "Fuerteventura-related chat" separate from the other stuff. I joined this board because it's (supposedly) about Fuerteventura and I live here but don't speak Spanish well yet, not because I'm an expat Brit who needs a daily dose of British politics. For me, Fuerteventura Forum has great value if only the interesting bits can be found. I find chat about Fuerteventura road closures and problems finding things here either mildly interesting or incredibly useful. I daresay they are totally boring for people who only come here on holiday, no matter how often, so let's spare them the trouble of having to trawl through it.

I agree with the above.  When immigration is mentioned in the news, this forum becomes a "no-go" area due to aggressive postings from members who have political leanings to the far right.

General chat as it stands is exactly that, no rules or guidelines suggest otherwise apart from the obvious things you really can't post.
And sorry but next time I see the word "France" imma link back to the above post!

If it really is that much of a hardship to scroll past something that isn't to your liking may I suggest you leave the internet, cancel your ADSL and return your 300 euro Acer Aspire back to Electron for a refund.

Just a suggestion :D

You can't live your life with your head buried in the sand. That's why the UK is in the position it's in today. Too many people suffering from Apathy  :'(

"While i wish people wouldn't keep bringing up the subject of politcal allegiances and immigration i'm happy to attempt to set the record straight if i can when they do

British national Party = Far right ( Known to be a racist organisation) Not heard of any on forum
English Defence League = Far right ( known as a racist organisation) Not heard of any on forum
UK Independance party. = Centre / right (Non racist but pro British) Quite a few on forum

If we are to tar people with a brush lets make it the right brush.

Until theres a dedicated section for Brit current affairs hopefully thats the end of it all. But i very much doubt it.
