Title: Windows 8
Post by: Magoo on January 01, 2014, 16:12:34 PM
Just replaced my desktop PC with a Windows 8 machine. Initial thoughts is that it is a dogs breakfast.

Can anyone tell me how to group favourites in IE11? I can add sites to favourites,  but I like to have them in groups, rather than the one long list which I now have under W8

Thanks

I'm not on windows 8 but, if you right click on your favourites, does it give you an option to add a new folder?

You may need to expand your favourites first and the right click the favourites bar.

The only way I can see is first click on Favourites in the menu then choose Organise Favourites which will bring up a box, in this box you can create a new folder.
Click New Folder button and rename as a group name you want, carry on doing this for however many groups (folders) you need, then drag each one into the Favourites Bar heading at the top.
Close this box and now you will see your groups in the Favourites Bar.
To save a favourite click on Favourite in the menu and then click Save to Favourite, when the box opens choose whichever group tou want to save in and that it.
This is the only way I know that works

The problem is I cant find a menu with favourites on it. I add to the favourites list by using the pin button which appears when I right click at the bottom of the page. The only options are "Pin to Start" or "Add to favourites" Right clicking on either has no effect

Right click in a blank area near the top of your IE window, you will be presented with some options, click on Menu Bar and there you are all the menu options are visible

Clicking in this area brings up a wide bar with open tabs, plus two buttons. One gives a new tab, the other is an option for private browsing. However there is no menu bar.  :-[

Thanks Deso

Getting a bit further, I found a step by step idiot's guide on Youtube.  I did not realise that you had to open IE from the desktop to work with the favourites list. I had been using the tile app version.

Now got some favourites organised into folders, but this has not changed the tile version of IE

Another option is to use File Explorer. Mucho easier to manage and navigate.

In 8, swipe the menus in from the right. Click search and write "favourites" his will take you to your favs to play with.

Alternate way: In 8.1, you have a "start" button. Right click and choose File Explorer.

Navigate to;

C:\Users\#\Favorites
# =your username

Create and move your favourites as you please.

Hope these help
