Title: 1 week of eating in Caleta
Post by: IsThisForumStillGoingWow on November 27, 2013, 21:37:57 PM
Admin..I will post my 'eating out' reports in Restaurant Reviews..but just posting here for now..  ;)
Wednesday..The Cave..A little disappointed for the 1st time ever..2 mediocre pizzas..one with chilli that was way too hot for for anyone and a foccacia that was just a pizza base with tomato & loads of sliced olives..also was asked if we'd finished when our grandson was still eating, felt too rushed.
Thursday.. Wok Slow Boat..Excellent as always
Friday...15...Execllent, hubby had HUGE Lamb shoulder, baked parsnips, roast pots etc, I had fillet medallions with loads of veg etc Really well cooked
Saturday..Be warned New restaurant DELICIOUS 365 (where Mambos was) Order your meal..be prepared to pay just for meal..add €2.50 for side salad, €2.50 for coleslaw, €2.50 for chips etc etc A €17 euro meal can come to €27
Sunday.. A lazy afternoon down El Capitans with old friends (some not quite that old lol) with a full table of tapas and Marks wonderful sangria, brilliant  ;D
Monday...Nestors...Never fails to be great, wonderful food  :)
Tuesday...Was recommended 555 in The White Centre..well that has to be one of the best meals of the week..and some of the others were hard to beat..hubby had Lamb Tagine..it was massive..I had Beef tenderloin in 3 mustard sauce..the wild rice with it was fantastic.
Great breks all week, mainly at 60's bar.
Didn't stay out late..was a much needed break from moving house and also taking Grandsons xmas pressies over and spending loads of time with him. Greg and Kat at Nelsons pool bar were fantastic hosts too in the week.
Feeling mucho refreshed now :)

Where Is 555 Restaurant in the White Centre Hev?  We were last there in January but I can't for the life of me recall seeing that one.

Hev,

I love those lazy afternoons at El Capitans great in December and Janurary when the weather is nice but not good enough for the  beach. Meet up with friends and try and learn some Spanish with our friends from the mainland.

Hev, It's already on the local Grapevine about that new Restaurant, that used to be Mambos, being expensive. They'll last 2 minutes ripping people off like that.

It's on the other side of the White Centre to 60's etc, same side as where the old taxi rank was, next to a perfume shop..It was recommended by local friends Ggarlo.

We went on the first night of opening Woe and the writing saying 'extras' (which should actually be part of a main meal) was tiny and tacked on the bottom of menu. Also in tiny writing it says '+ 7% IGIC' so that's another 7% slapped on that you dont realise, agree with you it wont last long (That 17€ steak, chips, side salad & coleslaw actually costs THIRTY EUROS  ???  ??? )

Thanks for the info Hev, will give it a try in January when we are out, and 15 as well.  We've not been there yet, but following all the great reviews on here, can't wait to try it.

Afriend of mine went on the SECOND night. Asked for Gammon Steak, only to be told the'd run out, and couldn't get any from the supplier  ;D ;D

I to went to Delicious 365 the first week it opened, it looked very inviting but that is
all I can say about it, like previous posts a lot of hidden charges, steak pie 12 euros if we wanted chips or jkt with that it was an extra 2.50 14.50 for steak pie and chips really expensive, the drinks are expensive to which is why we opted for a bottle of water and a pitza between the two of us, definitely wont go back, don't know what the owners are thinking about they will never get holiday or local trade, 555 really good food, warm friendly atmosphere , Fado rock worth a visit to they do a great mixed grill for the bigger appetite around 12 euros complete with chips or jkt and salad.

its great to read restaurant reviews for Caleta.  We have been going over for many years now, and we just love El Capitans,  in the summer booking a table is a must.  I have to say we also like the Aberdeen, no frills and you get what you pay for, packed out almost every night when we were there in the summer. Nestors is great for a treat, also like the slow boat Chinese, not the buffet upstairs, was disappointed with the COLD buffet this year where as last year it was great.

How can you relax and enjoy yourself in a place where even answering "Yes, please" to a simple question like "Do you want ice with your G+T" might end up costing money? What price a straw?
