15.11.2013 - The new movie, starring Christian Bale as Moses and depicting the classic tale of the Israelites' departure from Egypt, is being shot on location in Almeria and in Fuerteventura, both of which are set to receive a healthy injection of cash from the presence of the actors and the hundreds of crew members involved in the mammoth project. It emerged recently during a TV debate that Scott changed his original plans to film in the landscapes of Mt Teide due to a major fall-out with the TeideNational Park authorities, who - it is alleged - banned him from using live animals in the area. The trustees of the Park laid down a draconian list of conditions to ensure the shooting of the film did not endanger Teide's fragile ecosystem and one of the impositions proved the last straw for the award-winning film director. The Park vetoed the presence of hundreds of sheep, horses and other animals in the area due to the likelihood of massive amounts of excrement which would not only require a big clean-up operation but would attract flies by the thousands. According to the journalist who divulged the spat, Scott was asked to come up with very imaginative solutions, such as fitting nappies to the animals to prevent them from leaving droppings on location, or to use computer-generated images.
Critics of the decision to veto the animals say the problem was not as serious as the Park believed and the veto meant that valuable revenue for the island has been lost, to the benefit of AlmerÃa and Fuerteventura
The Teide National Park Authorities are probably correct. It is a fragile ecosystem. Nobody knows what the outcome would have been with all that Poo around.
