Title: Using a Sky box for UK TV
Post by: RVEEE on October 08, 2013, 22:16:35 PM
I have a spare (nearly new) Sky box - minus viewing card, in the UK. Is it possible to install this with a dish in Fuerte (my place is in La Pared) so that I can get basic UK channels?

Unfortunately my wife wants to watch Corrie, Deadenders etc on holiday.  :'(

Does anyone have any idea how much this would cost, or whether there are better options?

Yes
Just like in the UK, a Sky box even without a Sky card will receive all the "free to air " (ie non Sky card channels") like BBC ITV C4 and Fives and 100plus others.

However reception of such channels will be depending on your location, and more importantly satellite dish size...and (others may confirm this), you may be looking at a slightly larger dish than you use in the UK, say at least a 2m dish!

There are alternates, like "rebroadcasting" systams and "internet TV / streaming", but then the quality of these can sometimes be less than standard definition TV, let alone not where near HD TV!
