Are you sure you don't have a NIE number?  Normally you can't buy a property without one.  Your lawyer probably obtained it for you at the time of purchase.  It will also show on your Escrituras..  You would also have needed it to sign up for the utilities i.e water, electricity etc.

You would also have needed an NIE number when you purchased the scooter to register it in your name, would you not?

I have tried the bank and have not got my deeds to the property with me.I can't get hold of my solicitor, I thought there would be an easy solution to this.I have not registered the scooter in my name yet until Iget my nie number.

Assuming you are on Fuerteventura at the moment, I suppose you could go to the Policia in Puerto  tell them you have mislaid/lost your NIE and see if they can give you a duplicate (if your Spanish is up to it!).  I find it hard to believe you haven't got one or haven't had the need to show it on other occasions. I seem to have to show mine in all sorts of  situations.

Do you have your "padron" (empadronamiento, I think, is the full name) document? The one you get from the Ayuntamiento. It states:

CERTIFICA: Que ......(name)...... con DNI ....(NIE - ours are Ynnnnnnna i.e. both start with "Y" then 7 numbers, then a letter)...es en el dia de hoy.....(bla bla bla)

You're a non-person here if you don't have a NIE. I know both mine and my husband's by heart, but I don't know my own mobile phone number.

My advice would be to go back to the Bank and ask again. If you have a Spanish mortgage the Bank must know your NIE. They would also have a copy I think of your deeds.
