Hi,
I'll be on Fuerteventura on January 26th and I'd like to go and see CD Cottillo play if possible.
I see that they're at home to CD Vera that day but I don't fly in until 11am local time. What time is the kick off likely to be?
Also, where exactly do they play?
If anyone here is likely to be there, let me know as it'd be good to have a local expert on hand!
Thanks,
Simon
Hello Simon
The KO is likely to be 11am or midday, so I think you'll have to give it a miss.
The ground is on the right as you drive in to El Cotillo, just past the Inpescasa supermarket.
As today is a public holiday for Constitution Day, the local derby was played:
Lanzarote 3 CD Cotillo 1
Lanzarote are 10th and cotillo are 12th.

Thanks. That's a shame.
When you know the kickoff time for definite, could you let me know so I can make a decision at the last minute please? I'd really like to go so if I can fit it in, I will.
Thanks,

Today's result:
CD Cotillo 0 Union Yaiza (Lanzarote) 1
Cotillo down to 14th.
I went to watch the CD Cotillo v Union Yaiza game yesterday: a scruffy affair not helped by a strong wind.
The game was decided by a suitably scruffy goal just before half time: a mis-hit corner bounced 'Dambuster' style along the goal line where everyone left it to each other and the ball bobbled into the net.
Apart from this, the only other first half action was each side hitting the crossbar: Cotillo with an against the wind floater which the Yaiza flapped at and a wind assisted 35 yarder from the Yaiza full back which, if it hadn't hit the crossbar would have ended up in the harbour!
Cotillo had the wind in the second half but appeared not to know what to do. Every ball was a long diagonal out to the hairy bearded No 11 (who looked like he'd just come off The Exodus set) who struggled to control the ball and was constantly dispossesed as a consequence. 6 or 7 good set pieces were wasted by overhitting the ball and the Yaiza keeper only had one save to make.
Yaiza deserved the win, they were fitter sharper and quicker to the tackle than Cotillo and alway had options.
Cotillo were not the young face paced side I saw pre-promotion last April. They appear to have tried to go for more experience for the step-up to Div 3 but some of the players didn't seem bothered.
I won't be surpried if Cotillo go back down. Good crowd though and still only 3 Euro to get in.

A rare away point for Cotillo :) They are 12th with 24 points.
Does anyone know the kick off time for the match against Vera on 26th January yet?
If it's 12pm local time, I'm hoping to be able to drive there from the airport as my flight gets in at 10.45am.
Bodger
When I watched the Cotillo v Yaiza game at 12.00 on Sunday 15th December there were posters advertising the game next to the main entrance to the ground and information on the big 'chalk board' on the wall on the sea side of the ground. This information was there on Saturday 14th but wasn't there on Thursday 12th.
These posters are the way football matches get advertised in Fuerteventura and are pretty much the most reliable method of confirming the date and kick off time.
What you really need is someone from the Forum who is in El Cotillo to visit the ground and post the information on here for you.
If kick off is at 12.00 and you land 10.45, you'll do very well to collect your baggage, collect your car and then drive there before kick off. Good luck.
I don't know where you're staying, but when you're out in the car you might notice that pretty much every village has a football ground with floodlights. These floodlights are normally on on a Friday night so I would presume from that that a game is being played.
I don't know what League or standard these games might be (perhaps the Captain could enlighten) but I know when I've stayed in Corralejo if the lights are on there is either training or a Youth game going on. (sadly the senior team are no more)
Enjoy wherever you might end up.
JJ
Sorry, I don't know a confirmed KO time.
Thanks all.
I won't have to collect baggage (hand luggage only) and my rental car is apparently "guaranteed in 15 minutes" which I'll believe when I see it.
Google maps reckons 40 minutes drive to the ground so I'm gonna give it a good go and see what happens.
Hopefully someone will be able to confirm the KO for me as we get nearer to the time so I don't waste my time getting up there as I'm actually staying right down in Costa Calma.
Thanks again for your help.
Bodger
Bodger
There's a football ground in Costa Calma where UD Pájara Playas de Jandía used to play the Tercera (Third) Division.
Sadly the Senior Team went bust in I think 2011 and I don't know if anything remains of the Club or its set-up.
Maybe worth making a few enquiries when you're there for a 'Friday Night Footie Fix' as mentioned above.
There are also football grounds in nearby Morro Jable, La Lajita and Tarajalejo.

It's the game against Vera that I'm going to try and get to. Next weekend, on the Sunday.
Don't spose anyone knows what the actual kickoff time is likely to be, do they?
Sorry Bodger! :)
No indication of a KO time on the fixture website yet - http://www.resultados-futbol.com/tercera/grupo12/jornada23 (http://www.resultados-futbol.com/tercera/grupo12/jornada23)
Thanks.
I tweeted a few likely people and one said:-
No lo sé pero si juegan el Domingo casi seguro que es a las 12:00.
I don't speak much Spanish but Google Translate seems to think that that says something like "Assuming it's on the Sunday, it'll probably be a 12pm kick off".
So I think I'm gonna take the risk and go for it.
So after all that, two separate people have tweeted me to say that the game kicks off at 11.30am.
Looks like I'm gonna have to give the game a miss - no way I can land at 10.55am and make that.
Shame - thanks for all your help, everyone.
It says it's a 12.30 KO on this website - http://www.futbolme.com/coj/index_torneo.asp (http://www.futbolme.com/coj/index_torneo.asp)
Bodger
Don't despair yet!
I presume your 'TwitFace' contacts are in Cotillo at the moment and that they HAVE seen the posters advertising the game next to the main entrance to the ground and/or the information on the big 'chalk board' on the wall on the sea side of the ground.
If not, then may I respectfully suggest you ask them if they would have another look on probably Friday or Saturday in order to get you the definite kick off time.
You could always start a separate thread on here asking if anyone who is in El Cotillo can check the posters/chalk board for you.
JJ
Hi Cap'n.
Looks like I'm never gonna get another game in in Fuerteventura, coming back to Corralejo for a week on Sat 22nd Feb and the only game is CD El Cotillo. According to http://uk.soccerway.com/teams/spain/el-cotillo/25092/matches/ (http://uk.soccerway.com/teams/spain/el-cotillo/25092/matches/) the game is on the Saturday, but your list states Sunday.
If it is the Sunday, (23rd) do you know of anyone in the Corralejo area who I could car/petrol share with? Or could we get a few of us in a taxi so we can have beers?
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Mikster

You can easily travel to El Cotillo FROM on the local bus
Mikster
Ignore the post above, not sure what happened probably a bit early in the morning....
Anyway as I was typing........
You can easily get from Corralejo to El Cotillo on the local bus: the Number 8.
It leaves Corralejo every hour on the hour, the journey time is about 40 minutes and it costs about 3 Euros each way. (30% less if you have a Bono Card)
It leaves El Cotillo every hour on the hour on the way back as well, but only until 20.00 so don't miss the last one!!
You can catch the bus from The Bus Station in Corralejo or from outside The (closed) Bahia Lobos Appts at the top of Main St or from outside Corralejo's football ground opposite The Oasis Papagayo Appts.
The bus stops right outside El Cotillo's ground.
However you will most probably have the issues regarding kick off time to deal with as Bodger has been finding out above.
You will need confirmation somehow, but on the assumption that the game will be 12.00 k.o. you'll need to catch the 11.00 bus at the latest. You can have a small beer inside the ground for an Euro.
If you look on the Captain's other thread for Union Puerto and Villaverde fixtures, it looks like Union Puerto are at home (they play at The Los Pozos ground behind the Los Rotundas Shopping Centre in Puerto del Rosario) on the 23rd. The Captain goes to watch them sometimes so that may be an option.
Enjoy.
JJ
This Sunday's home game against CD Vera from Tenerife is now being advertised as a 11.30am KO.
For those that are interested,I did make it to the game!
I'm there now!
El Cotillo are winning 3-0 half way through the second half. Ask the goals came in the second half.
Final score. El Cotillo 3 Vera 0.
Well done Bodger! :D
Cotillo up to 13th with 23 points. Vera go bottom of the league.
Bodger
Well done!
Hope it was worth the effort and that you saw the goals?
From the times of your posts it appears it was a 11.30 kick off after all.
Good ol' Captain right again??
JJ
Over here for a couple of months and also went to Sunday's game.
Watched Corralejo in the past but following their sad demise decided to watch Cotillo for the first time. As Bodger said Cotillo beat CC Vera 3-0 and fully deserved their victory.
Was very impressed with the quality of Cotillo's play - passing to feet from the back (they've got 2good ball playing centre backs) through midfield and no hoofing the ball upfield. Play in the style of Swansea and Arsenal!
Look forward to the next home match against Tenerife who I saw play Corralejo last season and had some very good young players that day.
By theWay do Union Rosario play in the stadium which is more or less opposite the hospital?
Yes they do. Union Puerto play at the Los Pozos ground, opposite the hospital.
Many thanks for confirming that. Will try to get to their next home match.
After a lot of searching I've managed to find the website for the Fuerteventura league. These games are played on Friday nights at 8.30pm. Teams in the league are La Oliva, Jandia, Tiscamanita, Tarajalejo, Tuineje, Gran Tarajal, Las Playita, Puerto Cabra, Union Puerto B and Chilegua.

A first away win of the season for Cotillo yesterday.
It was against the bottom club Realejos. A 3-2 win.
A home game on Sunday 9th for CD Cotillo against CD Tenerife B.
I've seen a poster confirming it's a noon kick off.
Today's result:
CD Cotillo 1 Tenerife B
Tenerife B go top of the league.
Watched the game yesterday. It was a disappointing result for Cotillo because they should have had at least a draw..Tenerife started much the better and took a deserved lead but Cotillo got more into the game and scored an excellent equalizer. For the rest of the 1st half and the early part of the 2nd half Cotillo were on top and had a number of scoring chances. Tenerife were always dangerous on the break and it was from one of these breaks that they scored the winner, a goal the home keeper should have prevented.
The visitors finished with 9 men - their keeper had to leave the field injured after they had used all their subs and then in the last few minutes one of the subs was red carded. Cotillo couldn't make their numerical advantage pay and the centre back who went into goal did well to keep out everything Cotillo threw at him.
I was impressed with Tenerife's young wide midfield player who although being short in stature was very skillful with the ball and had bags of pace - a real old fashioned winger who should go on to play at a higher level.
An excellent crowd with the terracing along one side full.
This weekend's result:
Laguna 3 CD Cotillo 4
Cotillo up to 11th
Hi all.
Anyone know if this game, 23 Feb v Club Atletico Granadilla, is definatley on on Sunday and do we know kick off time yet?
According to this link, it's on Sunday - http://www.futbolme.com/coj/index_torneo.asp (http://www.futbolme.com/coj/index_torneo.asp)
It's probably a midday KO even though it shows 13.00 on the link.
Thanks Captain & Jonesesjourneys for the information should be ok to get the 10 o'clockbus then so I can ahve a lookaround El Cotillo and then staright back afterwards. If the buses are on the hour each way it shuldn't be a problems. One last question, I assume the times quoted by Jonesesjourneys are the Sunday timetable?
It's now showing as a noon KO on Sunday.
Mikster
The bus times are the same on Sunday as every other day but if you stay on the bus to the terminal (its the stop after the football ground) in El Cotillo you can check the times on the bus shelter. you can also check out the lagoons before working your way back to the village and the football ground.
Enjoy
JJ
Thanks all, will be making my way to the game today, might need my jacket at this rate :D
Today's result - CD Cotillo 2 Granadilla 0
A good result as Granadilla are top of the league.
We wait for Mikster's match report :)
As Captain Sensible says C D Cotillo today had an excellent 2-0 win over the league leaders Atletico Granadilla. In front of another reasonably sized crowd they thoroughly deserved the win, the two goals coming in the last 10 minutes or so of the first half.
The visitors, who last week had beaten Tenerife B to take over the leadership, rarely offered a serious threat to the Cotillo goal. Cotillo's two best players on the day, in my opinion, were the ever dangerous striker, the number 9, and the defensive midfielder, number 6, who picked up a lot of loose balls and broke up a number of Atletico's attacks. Unfortunately I don't know their names as the club does not appear to publish team sheets for supporters to buy - it would add to the enjoyment of the game if they did (eecially for us football anoraks!).
Really enjoyed the game and the atmosphere, should have been 4 or 5 nil with Cotillo hitting the woodwork and having one cleared off the line. Great game and standard of football. The barman managed to find me a CD Cotillo shirt in my size and even gave me and my Wife a free beer. Many many thanks again to JJ and Captain for your assistance in giving us a great day out.

Cotillo are down to 12th after 4 consecutive defeats.
Although CD El Cotillo finished the season on a losing run to finish in mid table on 50 points in their first term in the Tercera Division is an excellent performance. I watched a number of their matches while on the island during the winter and thought that they played good attractive football and look forward to watching them again next season.
Looking at the final league table I noticed that UD Vecindario have had all their 50 points deducted and obviously relegated from the division as a result. Does Captain Sensible or anyone else on the forum know what financial misdemeanours Vecindario have committed and led to such a severe punishment?
Vecindario from Gran Canaria failed to turn up for their away game at El Cotillo and another game, because of financial problems.
It was a very creditable position for CD Cotillo to finish 10th - one place above Lanzarote :D
Thanks for that Captain.
I've watched Vecindario a few times in the past when I was in Gran Canaria. One of those matches was against Rayo Valacano who I believe at the time had themselves been relegated directly from the Primera to Segunda B for financial irregularities, just a season after having played in the old Uefa Cup.
Unfortunately financial problems appear to be endemic at all levels of Spanish football.
Let's hope that Cotillo can continue next season, and don't go the way of CD Corralejo, Playas de Jandia and UD Fuerteventura, who have all had to pull out of the 3rd Division in the past few years due to financial problems.
