Ridley Scott to shoot Moses movie in Spain
British Oscar-winning director Ridley Scott was in the Canary Islands this week scouting for locations for his new Hollywood blockbuster Exodus.
Scott, 75, visited the coastal towns of El Cotillo and Corralejo on the island of Fuerteventura on Tuesday in the hope of finding suitable locations for his new biblical blockbuster about the life of Moses.
"The film's shooting will last around 19 weeks of which three to four weeks will be in the Canary Islands," the highly acclaimed director told online newspaper Canarias 7.
Scott was in Andalusia last month with the film's producer and location manager, although news of his visit has just come out due to a confidentiality agreement signed with the Andalucía Film Commission.
The team overflew numerous spots along the Guadalquivir River by helicopter, as well as visiting the Andalusian cities of Seville and Almeria.
Scott, from South Shields in northern England, already filmed Kingdom of Heaven and 1492: Conquest of Paradise in Seville, Córdoba and Granada.
As for his upcoming film Exodus, Scott has said it will be released in 2014 and although no major star has been confirmed yet for the leading role of Moses, there are rumours that it will be English (sic) actor Christian Bale playing the religious figure.

Be careful what you wish for. The Dingle Peninsula in Ireland, was a beautiful remote wilderness before "Ryan's Daughter" came along. Now it's a tour bus infested hell hole. (Or it was on the day I went)

One of the things that I love about Fuerty is that there are still one or two wild places that are a bugger to get to. Tourism is important to the local economy, but just take a look at the hole that was once Tenerife if it gets out of control

'Exodus', the new Biblical epic based on the life and times of Moses and directed by award-winning British director Ridley Scott, has been granted exceptional permission to use some of Fuerteventura's most protected natural spots for filming.
The island's Cabildo says it agreed to the request to shoot key scenes in the Corralejo Dunes and the natural park in Jandía after receiving assurances that as little disturbance as possible would be caused to the habitats. After queuing in a very slow queue for about an hour it was getting close to 5:30 and a guy came down the line sending those, including my son, who didn't fit the 'perfil' (profile) away. I'm not sure what the profile they wanted was.
Oh well. At least the queue was civilised - no-one jumped the queue.

THE countdown has started to the arrival of Exodus in Almeria.
Director Sir Ridley Scott will begin filming the blockbuster in Almeria on October 21. The date has been chosen to follow on from several days of filming in London.
Shooting will start in Tabernas and will continue for about three months in different locations in the province of Almeria, although most of the filming will focus on sets that are completed in the Sierra Alhamilla.
The extras chosen can not hide their joy at having the opportunity to participate in a film that will make make history as well as give a financial boost to the province. The movie is also notable for the actors chosen by Sir Ridley. These include superstars Christian Bale and Sigourney Weaver. Also in the cast is young Spanish actress Maria Valverde who is to play the role of the wife of Moses played by Bale.
Hotel rooms in Almeria City are filling up fast with a recent arrival the twice Oscar nominated artistic director Arthur Max. The New Yorker is a key member of the team and has worked on many films previously with Sir Ridley including Black Hawk Down and Gladiator.

According to the local press today, Ridley Scott and 450 crew arrive on 2 planes from Almeria today. They have been filming there for the last 5 weeks. A ship is also docking in Puerto del Rosario, and that's bringing all their equipment.
