Title: Is this a first for Correos?
Post by: pegtee on May 29, 2013, 14:51:52 PM
A birthday card sent to me in Calleta early February from a friend in England did not arrive.  No surprise there.

The surprise is that the card has arrived back at her address in England this week having been returned to sender. It bears a stamp by Correos Antigua  CN15  devolucion/retour   direccion insuficiente.

The house number was missing off the address so it is quite understandable that they could not deliver it but to return it to sender well !!!!    What ever is happening?

You never know there might be hope for them yet.

My wife's BD card posted early March from UK has still to arrive here in Caleta!!
I suspect there was no return address, so it probably disappeared into the ether.

My mum sent a wedding anniversary card last year with 40 Euros in it. When it had not arrived after 8 weeks I kept giving the postman daggers thinking that he had pocketed it like they do all the time in the UK. Then after 9 weeks in arrived. It had the correct address on it so no idea why it took so long.

We're in the Gran Tarajal Correos area and I have nothing but praise for the staff and service we receive from this office. To our knowledge nothing has ever gone astray over a number of years. We always use "Registered" post for anything important and internet sites like Moonpig or Hallmark for greeting cards, notes, etc.

I posted four cards in the box outside the shop near the Beach Cafe in Caleta and not a single one was delivered. Never again. Emails and texts on birthdays now. We've had numerous posts never arrive and my Telefonica bills arrived once and never again. If they can do it once why not the rest of the time? Crazy, but you can't go digital with them until you've had three for reference numbers.

But was it actually a Correos box? We have all sorts of boxes in Correlejo. Some are just little ones on shop shelves or outside shops and taken in each night; then there are the big street ones, sometimes two side by side. Only some of them are bona fide post boxes. The others belong to private companies such as Swiss something. They don't want letters with a Correos stamp; they want their own stamps on the letter. Actually, I don't really know how they work, as I've never used one.

Hi Sheila,

It was one of the others, can't remember which, but it was the right one for the stamps purchased. We usually buy the stamps from the Correos and post them in the box outside or give them over the counter but I was feeling a bit lazy on that day and the wind was up. Windsurfing first, everything else second.  8) :-*

The post box near the Beach Cafe is a SwissPost box.  I've never used those boxes.
