Hi flying in around 8pm on a Saturday night so wanted to know if the big supermarket at Lajares was open late on a Saturday or open at all on Sunday?

The supermarket in Lajares is open until 8.30 pm. It is open on Sunday from 8.30 am until 2 pm.
There is a Mercadona supermarket on the right just outside Rosario which you would pass on the way to the roundabout which takes you up to La Matilla and then on to La Oliva.
Nice to shop locally tho' and support the local businesses.

Whereabouts is this? We are staying in Lajares for a week on 15th March in a Villa, which we expect to get to for about 7pm, so this would be ideal for getting a few bits when we arrive

The Mercadona at Puerto Rosario will be your best bet for an initial shop, rather than Impecasa at Lajares..come from the airport heading for Correlejo on the outer ring road, you will see the sea on the the downhill slope, which brings you to a petrol station just past it you will see Mercadona, follow your nose and stock up..open until 9.15pm..its the one we use...

Thanks Voldermort and Admin, we are used to Mercadona from Tenerife, by far the best of the supermarkets.

Holidaymakers generally only need/want the essentials, so the extra cost is minimal. Impescasa supermarkets charge a bit extra but we'd be sunk without them. It is nice to support the local traders.

It is good that Mercadona have come here. They broke the 3 way monopoly which existed for many years.
However, everything is delivered to Mercadona in bulk from outside. You won't find anything that is produced on Fuerteventura. So, by all means, use Mercadona for your bulk things but if you want to taste cheese, vegetables, meat, fish from Fuerteventura, use the Impescasa. It may cost a bit more but it tastes a lot better.
Sorry, Bevlos. I forgot to say that the Impescasa in Lajares is open on Sunday morning until 2.00pm so don't panic on Saturday evening - go and have a pizza in La Cancela instead.
I've just looked up Inspescasa, I'd always assumed that they're a national chain, but now realise that they appear to be an Island company. I'm now glad that we support the El Cotillo branch.
We've always waited till we get there, rather than stopping on the way - It's nice to keep the money in town. Now it seems we're keeping it on the Island too.
