Urgent anti-crisis measures announced in Debate
Yesterday's annual State of the Region debate in Parliament saw the president of the Canaries announce a package of measures designed to tackle the impact of the continuing economic crisis.
Paulino Rivero outlined, although without giving full details, measures to cut waiting lists for hospital operations and to guarantee affordable rents for low-income families. Also in the pipeline is summer opening for more than a hundred schools to ensure children from deprived areas receive a proper meal during the day. Instructions are also to be given to town halls across the Canaries to prioritise the recruitment of people from families with no current wage-earner in all job selection procedures.
