Title: Up up up in a puff of smoke?
Post by: fifi on March 25, 2013, 13:13:48 PM
El Hierro volcanic activity increases over week-end

El Hierro's tourist sector is keeping its fingers crossed that the noticeable increase in seismic activity does not worsen further this week as Easter holidaymakers head to the small island.

El Hierro - 25.03.2013 - Monitoring stations picked up 117 movements of various magnitudes yesterday alone, prompting fears of bigger things to come given that 6 of the tremors measured over 3.0 on the Richter Scale and were distinctly felt by the population. Saturday also saw more than one hundred tremors recorded by the stations. A year and a half ago, a similar pattern of actvivty led to the eruption of a small undersea volcano off the coast of the island.

I am still hoping that it will eventually create a new Island. :)

See the El Hierro post in The Environment section of the Forum for regular updates. :)

Jand is still there, got here own Environment section on the forum, still cutting and pasting with no-one looking. 3600 posts, nearly all from her.  And Hierro is still there.
