I always use UK Forex who seem to give one of, if not the best, rate of exchange and no charges for amounts above £3000. Polite, quick service and very secure.

http://www.ukforex.co.uk (http://www.ukforex.co.uk)

For example, today's spot rate on 10k is 1.1461

I always use Afex. I call them, tell them how much I want to transfer and then transfer pounds to them. A day later it shows in my Spanish account as Euros. £10 fee per transfer, no matter how much.

I've looked at a couple of others - advertising good rates, but when it came down to it Afex were a better deal. I haven't looked at ukforex.

You will need to set up an account initially with any of these companies due to money laundering laws.

We've used www.iceplc.com (http://www.iceplc.com) on many occassions. They deliver by RM Special Delivery the next day if your can get funds cleared to them before 3pm.  The rate at the moment is 114.13 to the £.  There's no charge for orders over £400.
We also use a CaxtonFX card.
