Just been to the La Caja bank, it is now BANKIA, apparently seven banks have merged under the Bankia
name.
Stopped by the local police this morning next to the Taxi Rank on Tamaragua, informed me in no uncertain terms that if I EVER ditched my rubbish during Daytime hours then I would be liable to a heavy fine, just thought I would mention it.
Have been down town these past five nights, errie atmosphere with no music yet lots of people (Good Thing obviosly), bars in Atlantico are open, not sure why, not one customer apart from two people in paddys.
Yup..the locals know how to roll out the welcome mat dont they :'( :'( :'(
As for Bankia...........Bustia would be more appropriate I think ::)

It's always been the rule that you are not supposed to put rubbish in the street bins during daylight hours, but it's now being enforced.
There's an article in this months The Voice about it:
· From June to October, rubbish can only be deposited between 21.00 - 05.00
· From November to May, rubbish can only be deposited between 20.00 - 05.00
· Rubbish must be placed inside the bins and the lid closed
· Bulky items must be reduced into smaller pieces before being deposited
· Rubbish MUST be deposited inside and NOT outside of the bins or recycling bins
Failure to do this can result in fines from 60 euros upwards.

Yeah righto, I would say 70% of Fuerteventura's bins have no lids whatsoever
What's the reasoning behind this anyway? why are they saying you can't throw your cr&p out during the day?
The Bankia merger was months ago - long before they went bust. La Caja own about 2.5% of the merged conglomerate. May I suggest anyone looking for a bank consider EVO. It's really an internet bank but has no charges on the important things like Debit Cards. It also pays realistic interest on deposits and over 2.25% on balances over 3,000.00 Euros. Also good customer service by phone in English
The only downside, if it is one, is that the nearest branch is in Gran Canaria but if you only use internet banking and cash machines it's perfect

I can only assume its to reduce flies and smells, assuming again that they will be emptied the next day, but can't see that happening everyday. Perhaps there is another reason?
Yes, it's to avoid a build up of smells and flies during the day.
Caleta has got new bins now, Brightspark, so they've all got lids :D
Perhaps property owners should let their tenants know about this.
How weird is that ? Being told when you can put your own rubbish in the bin ? Can you imagine that here ? Crazy ::) ::) ::) ::)
Whats perhaps even worse, is that the cops have actually got the time and interest, to warn people about putting rubbish in bins...........amazed :'(
Friend of ours actually was fined 30 euros. Mind you she did put the rubbish in the bin directly in front of a Policia Local car, and the bin had a big notice on it with the permitted hours. In summer our rubbish is collected every night - though this may change with the recent economic problems.
Well I didn't know until now that rubbish could only be put out at night. Nobody told me, and there are no notices on the bins to say one way or the other in Caleta. However I do know now thanks to this Forum. But if there are laws for this that and the other, why aren't the general public informed?
Because then they couldn't catch you out and make money emmi....... ;)
Gonna have some fun next month when we are out......outwitting plod to dump our rubbish during the day.....sort of whole new form of entertainment for holidays really 8)

The bin outside my place had an old tatty warning on it in Spanish Emmi but not many people heeded it.

The police in Fuerte are like kiddies with a new toy.
Once the novelty wears off they'll get bored with it
They'll soon forget about the bin law and everyone can go back to normal
Does this mean then that if I`m toddling along and nonchalantly chuck my empty water bottle into a skip I can be fined? I usually take my rubbish out of the hotel with me and skip it, just to sort of well, help the maid a bit. Better leave it `til later.

In good old blighty, you can be fined for putting the wrong rubbish in in the wrong one of the dozen or so bins that people now have to have - and god forbid if you don´t wash your baked bean cans out before you chuck them out.
Here, there are no wheelie bins disfiguring the fronts of properties. The roadside bins are emptied EVERY DAY, not once a fortnight. All they ask is that household waste is not put in the bins during the day.
If anything, we need more enforcement here. I cannot believe why, when there are glass and plastic recycling bins everywhere, why some lazy b**t**ds still put everything in the general rubbish bins.

Thats as may be. But a job for the police,? maybe not.
Does this law apply for bins positioned on private complexes? My nearest bin is in the middle of nowwhere and I get such satisfaction from breaking the law every day....
What communities do about rubbish disposal on their property is up to them - although I suppose people would complain if they were causing a nuisance with flies, cockroaches and ants.
It applies to domestic waste - the sort that you are supposed to seperate from the glass, plastic and cardboard. You can dispose of these in the bins provided at any time of day. They don't, generally, attract vermin, which is what they are trying to prevent. Nothing wrong with that.
At least we don't have inspectors who have the right to access people's private property to check that the baked bean cans are clean and in the right bin. I would rather have the Policia Local any day.
I'd have the Policia Local polishing my shoes if i could get it. Fact is they should have far more worthy things to do with their time than bin surviellance.

If anyone has actually seen a policeman keeping surveillance on a rubbish bin, perhaps they can tell us.
If one happens to drive past when someone is breaking the law, it is right that they should do something about it. Whether you like it or not, putting rubbish in the public bins outside of the allowed hours is breaking the law ( just like putting tins in the glass bins in UK is).
Anyway, now we all know what the law is, it shouldn't worry any of us, should it :-X
I have seen a local policeman on Tamaragua hiding near the supermarket so he can see the bins on Lentisco and the other bins which are on Drago watching and waiting to catch people put items into the bins before the pre scribed times. Yet cars which are parked on the pavements on Lentisco which are illegal are ignored. Seems there is a policy of policeman trying to write tickets in order to meet their quota.
They make their own rules up on the Rock................... ::)
