Twinkle received an email asking if we could help this very sick cat (now called Benny) in Gran Tarrajal which is just south of Fuerteventura.
Here is a little update .
It took a Twinkle volunteer 3 days to catch him, not that Benny could run because he is so weak and almost blind but we had some terrible wet weather and winds of up to 51km for 2 days. Benny was behind a fence that we could not get into and he was too weak to jump up to the wall for food. He is in the worst condition we have seen in a very long time.
His left eye has a cataract from cat flu & his right eye is so badly ulcerated and swollen, what should be the pupil is just a white/grey bulge and will need removing if and when he gets stronger. He was blood tested and negative for feline aids and leukaemia. He is on strong antibiotics for his flu and eye drops.
He has also been shot and has a pellet in his side, which you can't miss because he is so skinny it sticks out. His first night he eat and drank water but his stomach made the most awful noises, he was just not used to getting food.
Until today he has only been to the loo in his bed, but today he got up and used the litter tray - wonderful.
He has no muscle mass at all, his starvation has eaten his muscles. It's even hard to cuddle him because he is just bones and he has sores where he has just sat for long periods. He is very sick and we don't know if he will make it but we hope with the right food and medication and lots of TLC he will survive. As long as he as the will to try and live we will give him every chance.
