Title: The Dubliner
Post by: fuertewolves on February 26, 2013, 15:54:18 PM
Some sad news. The Dubliner in Caleta de Fuste is set to close at the end of the month. Since it's opening last year it's been struggling to get numbers in.

I've heard the owner has lost his house & car in trying to keep this bar open. I've worked for this man on and off for the last five years and he is a decent man.

Tomorrow night (Wed 27th) A few local musicians are getting together and giving their time for free in one last hurrah in the hope of getting a few people in.

We will be getting our old band 'Quench' back together for this one last gig. I will be there playing drums so if anyone from this Forum comes along please come up and say hello, it will be great to meet you.

Many thanks,

Dave.

Certainly is bad news that another venue is closing down, but it´s not the first time that people have taken on this venue, only to struggle, then close, Piero included. It´s the same old problem with this place, the rent is set too high for anybody to make a go of it, so let this be a warning for any other potential "entrepeneurs" thinking they can do better. It´s a LARGE venue, and you need plenty of bums on seats to make it pay, not an easy thing to do in this present climate. Good luck to the guys on Wednesday.

Juan is a good guy and it's a shame the place is closing down, as woe said, the premises is a struggle.
In comparison to how it was in the old rock cafe days the place looks amazing inside, he did a great job of getting it done, as I said, a shame.

I thought the night went well. The bar was full, not rammed and there were twenty or so people still there enjoying karaoke (after the live music had finished) when I left at 2 o'clock in the morning.

Acts who were there were, Billy Clampit, Carlos, Tony (Elvis) and Addy (harmonica player), Rob Stevens and our band 'Quench' While we were playing some of Caleta's singers (Neil Martin, Vinny, Tony and Carlos) got up and did a couple of numbers with us. Addy also played harmonica on a couple of Blues tunes with us, he really is brilliant!

I really enjoyed the gig, the acoustics in there are the best in Caleta, shame it's now closed.

Dave.
