Anybody tried to get a Flu Jab in Antigua ?? Forget it. I had an appointment last week and when I went, they told me they didn´t have any Vaccinations. They told me "Maybe next week". I have since found out, and this is what I´ve been told, that they had a bad batch that they had to send back to Italy, and they may not have any until January. Whether it was was bought on the cheap, or it was the wrong strain, I don´t know, but by January we may all be dying from Flu :o Welcome to Fuerteventura.
A close call do not think I would want any drugs which came from Italy. You would never know their real providence.

Canary Islands - 01.11.2012 - The Department of Health here says that other regions with safe vaccines have agreed to release part of their preloaded shots to the Canaries to enable the programme to continue while a definitive solution is found for the contaminated batches. It is believed that up to 70,000 replacement jabs will arrive within the next week for distribution to health centres

It was the disposable syringes that were contaminated in the original supply.

Just had mine on Anglesey. All us codgers turned up on the same day and we were changed and bottoms powdered in 5 seconds flat. Never even felt the needle go in.
Just called into the doctors in Antigua this evening and asked about flu jabs, they are still not here yet, the receptionist said it may be another week before they arrive, but could be longer, they haven't been given a specific date of arrival yet..... :(
I wouldn't bother with it. The number of flu strains are so massive, there is evidence that these jabs are just making profits for the pharmaceutical companies.
Besides, as you get older your immune system responds less well to vaccinations. You're violating natural law. Far better to get flu and allow your immune system to respond naturally. Just my humble opinion - of course :D
Todays Canarias7 has an article about the flu vaccines in the Canaries. According to them the vaccines should be available on the Islands from 15th November.
The first Vaccines will be provided for people at risk of complications from flu , such as the chronically ill and the over 65s.
In the following weeks, when the rest of vaccines arrive in the Canaries, they will vaccinate pregnant women, people with morbid obesity, caregivers of chronically ill of any age, Police ,Firefighters, and Health personnel.
I had a Flu Jab in Antigua this morning. 65 years and over only. The nurse told me they only received 200 jabs for the whole Island. She said hopefully they´ll have more in 15 days.
Ken had his flu jab in Antigua this morning, I've (Kelly) got an appointment for tuesday morning for both the flu and pneumonia jabs as I had pneumonia last year and was told by the nurse this morning that I have to have both, even though i'm only 36 (nearly.....in a few hours anyway.... ;D ;D) xxx
