I don't apologise for flagging this subject up again, as I don't want the unwary falling into their trap and having to pay more than they bargained for. So here is a nice explanation of the rules and what to expect for those that missed previous posts.

Only six days now to go Kenny? I can hardly believe it. How time flies. :)

If you can't stick with Ryanair rules (one piece - 10kgs) then fly with any brand which is at least 2 times more expensive.
Don't try to cheat.
Use your pockets of your coat for small heavy devices like a camera (even shoes can fit in these deep pockets).

I never said cheat Ryanair I said see the links and keep smart or within the rules.

Good post KWC54. I am always amazed at how many people believe the rules dont apply to them and then blame everyone when they get caught. They always shout loudest.

Absolutely Dagwood - generally if you keep to the rules everything is ok with Ryanair. I suppose the reaction from people who are caught is because they thought they were smarter - which they're not.
The funniest that I have ever seen was at the Aer Lingus gate when RA were off the route, and a family turned up with enough luggage to emigrate with, none of which was booked. They were trying to argue why they should not have to pay nearly €1k. in charges Hilarious for all who did not have to wait behind them in the queue It was like a scene from a comedy

Some of those complaints are so funny, God help them, what do they expect an airline to do for them.  People really need to take responsibility for their own actions.  :D Great link.

Would any forum members be brave enough to list the items they insist on bringing with them on holidays and never ever use. Im sure we all have something. Mine is too many T shirts. I seem forget we have a washing machine. But Im still under the 10kg rule.

They should START with the final price, and then give you the option to knock off what you don´t want. That way you won´t feel as though you sre being "Ripped- off" as much.

From Fuerte to Madrid, why do they charge  €7.50 for a checked-in bag weighing 15 kilos, and charge you €50.00 to check-in an acoustic guitar weighing 3 kilos, even without a checked-in bag. Doesn´t make sense.

I always fill my pockets with the heavy stuff. It's not cheating, it's sticking by their rules.
I used to be a fat b@st@d, then I did something about it, and lost three and a half stone - that's the 20kg luggage you pay for with most airlines!! They don't weigh us, so every kilo you carry free in your pocket/up upy shirt/tucked in your belt is a small victory. And you can take pleasure in showing it to the person who just got charged an excess!

I think if you had a broken guitar it could be of more value than a bag of dirty kinckers. I think someone once wrote a song about this. Anyway it could be cheaper to buy an extra seat for the guitar.

Staying on the subject of Cabin luggae and allowance.

I think it would be much better if they [Ryanair]  upped the hold weight allowance to 20kg and reduced the cabin weight to 5kg.

Less hassle getting the heavier bag up and into the overhead lockers and more stuff in the hold case that isn't lumped about as much as the cabin bag. I would have thought one could get all of their documents, handbags (ladys -  well I assume) and perhaps a load of books/mags, camera etc.

Just my thoughts on this, whats yours?

Can`t agree there KW, I want to travel with ten kilos carry on luggage and no hold luggage, no queueing to check in and no waiting for the hold luggage to appear at the carusel. My cabin bag usually weighs in at eight kilos.

I respect your views Zep, et al, as not everyone will want to humph a case around and wait for it etc.  But my wife could never go for a few days on 10kg ;D ;D

In fact she sticks some of her stuff in my case, along with my three tee shirts and shorts. 8)

It´s a pain when you´re connecting to an International flight from Madrid. For example: PullmanturAir to the Caribbean allows you up to 40 kilos checked baggage at no extra cost, but you´re stuck with the lowest denominator as specified by Ryanair. Unless you go for the expensive option with Iberia.

Im happy enough with the 10kg hand luggage.  Ryanair give the option of taking 15kg or 20kg hold luggage.

You have to pay a bit extra for the extra 5kg though but it is handy at times. :)

I would like to add my support to the "keep 10kg for Hand Baggage".
Don't usually use RA since they dumped FUE a few years ago and left us to pay more with an alternative airline, but we are flying to Cork with them for a long weekend later this month and we could not get everything in with only 5kg each. I can definitely manage with 10kg, but the misses may need a photographers coat with its many pockets - have to wait and see!

I dont think Ryanair dumped Fue because as soon as the got the money they were owed they came back. As for 10kg I think its plenty for most trips. Its worth looking around for a light case as some of them can be a bit on the heavy side and limit the amount of stuff you can take. I bought one in Argos and have used it a lot and to my suprise everything on it still works.

Problem Solved:  I´ve done what I should have done a long time ago. Dumped Ryanair. What started out as a flight from Fuerte to Madrid for €17.50, ended up not much cheaper than Air Europa.
Less hassle and stress. No Ryanair gestapo waiting to pounce on you at the airport, Nice relaxing departure from Fuerte.  A few euros more, but well worth it. Goodbye Ryanair, you lost my custom forever. :-*

I'm surprised that the company makes the item so distinctive, so that gate staff can spot it - but what then? Could they rustle up a little known rule about non-permitted garments?

I`m not surprised that anyone who contemplates, even for one second, wearing a thing like that laughs out loud. and dribbles, licks windows, pulls clumps of their hair out and still wets the bed. Ten kilos hand luggage is more than enough for anyone, people who start in with"Oh but the missus...." need to apply a bit of common sense to packing. I`m sure that most people who can`t manage are just thrown into a blind panic when it comes to having to make a decision about what needs to be taken and what might just be a "nice to have". Plus the snobbery that seems to exist in some circles, you know the type of person who in the old days would load up the biggest case they could find and then boast about how much the took and never wore. And wrt the case weight mentioned in another thread, one of the heaviest is F.R.`s touted wheelie. The lightest are the Cabinmax type.

I  saw Michael O Leary being interviewed about the Rufus Roo jackets and decided to put it to the test with an old ski jacket which I had sewn a large zip into just for fun. Well Michael had no problem with them. :D

As well as my cabin luggage I had a fairly large holdall which was full of clothes, bottle of water, sandwiches, small toiletries, laptop etc with me. I took the items out of the bag in full view of the staff at the departure gate, just to be bold, and proceeded to pack the jackets lining up and then neatly folded the other bag and put it in my cabin bag. Of course the staff had to say something about it. "Excuse me Madam, but you have rather a lot of luggage in your jacket" one member of staff said. "Oh yes, I know", I replied, "but dont worry I checked with the airline before I packed and all is in accordance with  Ryanairs rules". The look I got was priceless. When I boarded the plane I unpacked the jackets contents and put them back into the holdall and put it between my feet.  :D

Its very handy having a zip in the lining....if you are a bit overweight you can just stuff your jacket. No more extra charges. :D
