Post by: richelworthy on September 02, 2012, 15:46:34 PM
Hi Guys
Can I take a hired car from payless on the ferry or do I have to stay on the Island the car is rented out on ?
Am I covered by insurance to go to other Island fuer / Lanz ?
How much to take a car on the ferry return from Fuer ?

Definitely o.k. to take cars hired from Payless and Cicar over to Lanzarote.
Payless head office is on Lanzarote, but I'm not sure if they have a presence on either Gran Canaria or Teneriffe.
Cicar definitely have a presence on Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, so definitely no problem taking their cars to either of these islands.
My son (Cicar) and I (Payless) took our cars over to Lanzarote within the last 4 weeks. We checked with the hire company and both said no problem and neither company made so much as a note in their records.

last time I looked it was around €115 for a car and 2 passengers for a return crossing with Fred Olsen and a further €44 for each extra adult. You can view their site, and Armas online and get up to date prices/times/bookings. They may have some offers on.
Sometimes it works out cheaper to cross on the Princesa Ico,(no cars) (€23 return each adult, €15 for child, 50% discount for residents) and hire a fresh car in Lanzarote/Playa Blanca if you are just going for one day. Cicar have an office at Correlejo harbour and you can arrange with them to pick one up in Playa Blanca. Not sure what their current price is but we were quoted €30 a while back, for 1 day.

I have always found Armas to be cheaper than Fred Olsen with a car - currently about €90 for a car and 2 passengers (non-resident) about €50 if you are resident. But do look out for special offers.
As Tamara says, 2 people on Princess Ico at €23 each + a hire car for 1 day at €30.25 would work out about €14 cheaper (for non-residents) but taking your own car saves a lot of messsing about with picking up another car and buying fuel etc. and you can more easily take your lunch and beach things in your own car boot.
