I'm amazed at how many supposedly fans of Fuerteventura are continually posting such negative comments about the island. Please, please let us be more careful of the things posted on here as it will stop people from visiting Fuerteventura which will kill off the tourism on the island. I know people will say " everyone needs to know" but some of the posts are just scary. Surely all of us on this forum want Fuerteventura to succeed so please think twice before you post on here.

The rats for one I would hazard a guess :-\
There are rats all over the world though Kenny and not just in Fuerteventura. :D

To all forumer's
If my posting regarding the rats in the bunkers/pots on the beaches has offended anyone, for this I apologise. I never intended my posting to be seen as a negative posting for Fuerteventura. We have been coming to this island now several times a year for well over 20 years and until the last 12 months or so we have never experienced them. It was meant purely as a health warning especially for parents with children.
I will ask admin to delete the posting.

Right on Glenys, so very true, the subjects are often mundane but it seems to be seasonal and every body uses it for THEIR needs.
However, every now and then we have a go ourselves and we should tell the forum what we find. There are some fantastic places to visit .Not always the most picturesque but unique for sure.
Los Molinos, Pajara, Tetir. Many places to visit and so much going on.
There are many monthly magazines from the council and island govt that list fairs shows, beach events, live music dancing singing and even wrestling etc etc you can find them in bars and council offices.
We should let the visitors know what's coming.
Please stop telling people how great Los Molinos is. We love it there, especially Casa Pon, and don't want it overrun with visitors!!!!!!
Oh dear I may be guilty of singing the praises of Los Molinos and it's beautiful gorge too loudly. (oh dear there I go again).
Don't apologise at all Two Persons for the rats posting, it's a very wise warning indeed.
We live here and despite what some holidaymakers claim it is not paradise on earth. If it were the Spanish would not be allowed to drive.
I have been visiting Fuerteventura for about 11 years and have a house there and really love it, though I know it has negatives as well as positives. I like to read the forum everyday (sad I know) but lately there seem to be more negative postings. I'm really not getting at anyone but it just makes me a little sad.Two persons, I understand your warning and I agree with you but it did get added to a bit!!!! There are a lot of people who's livelihood depends on tourism and things are hard enough as it is.
Fifi is the biggest culprit here :D
lmao, only joking :D
Seriously as in all walks of life there is negatives, we can't keep on with nicey nicey posts or it wouldn't be a forum. Thats the part to remember here its about discussion and exchanging views, news and other topics.
Not all topics are negative, but while they are important to anyone who wishes to visit, then they shouldn't be hidden or not discussed. I never knew about the rats, but i didn't or won't stop me from coming back, and I don't think it would matter to a whole lot of people as they surely know they are everywhere in the world. In fact one of the most common "animals" to grace this planet.
As for other snippets of negative news! if it is important then it should be aired. Why paint a picture of roses and all things nice when in some instances, its not true, so why lie, why hide the truth.
I would let people know its not all 100% a bed of roses, than have them come over and find things out for themselves and have a bad experience if they feel that way about it.
I have seen people on Tripadvisor who take and post pictures of cockroaches! What would they think if they saw a rat running across the path!!!
Lets keep the positive side going by all means, but lets have a realistic slant on it as well
I think this Forum is perfect the way it is. There are other Fuerteventura Forums which only show the nice side of everything. This one can be trusted for the truth and for that I am grateful.
Some of my posts could be called negative but they are based on fact.
Would anyone like to buy a property believing that they can legally let it out for holidays when they cant? No I dont think they would. Would they thank the Forum for keeping quiet about the fact that they could be fined €18,000 if they are caught? I dont believe that they would. People are better off knowing the truth and they can then make their own minds up about what to do. I do not believe in censorship of the truth on Forums.
On the other hand....the people who are trying to run Estate agencies and rental agencies would prefer if no one knew about it and just secretly pay the fines themselves while handing all of the owners names over to the Inspectors.
You can please some of the people some of the time....as the saying goes.
Would people prefer to lose money on some kind of a new hacking scam which seems to be targeting Owners Direct etc or would they prefer to read about it and make sure that their booking is safe before handing over their hard earned cash?
Ignorance is not always bliss.
I love this Forum. :D

This debate should be a good one Barry. ;)
We too love Fuerteventura and own properties here. We know there are negatives as well as positive's to the island.
My orignal posting did get added onto as do most posting's on this forum. But rats are nasty pieces of work, no one would sit in a restaurant whilst rats were running about, but people sit in the bunkers/pots eating their lunches etc where the rats are in very close proximity.
If tourists go to the beach's and see the rats then they will not return. The problem wants sorting out quickly and efficently by the local authorities.
Anyway enough said on this one. The original posting has been deleted. I'm off for a glass of wine....
Two persons.
Keep up the good work Fifi.
You are absolutely right Fifi....and you have my full support for the many gems you find and post. Sorry folks but life isnt all nicey nicey and never will be. If I want to find out something about a new place I want to know the good and the bad. Whats the point of painting a rosey picture, get the punters over, they hate the place and never return..Is that what some of you want??......
Alternatively just have a look at Trip Advisor or the equally dire Holiday Truths...all busy being nice to each other and pretending everything is wonderful everywhere..
I`d much rather have the rough and tumble and Fifi thank you ;D ;D ;D
We're all gonna die at the end of the year anyway and Fuerteventura is going down with us
Sorry was that negative?
Just enjoy the "rough and tumble" Barry. :) :D :D :D
I have a mind like a sewer sometimes. :D :D :D
PS. Thanks Voldemort. :-*

It seems strange referring to you as Two persons when I personally know most of the people on this forum. I just wanted to point out the fact that your opinon is as valid as the next persons is. I am sorry that you felt the need to delete it. That is not what Forums are about at all. We all need to be able to freely express our views and be respected for doing so, and your post was very educational and so be proud of it. It would be a boring world if everyone just conformed to what is expected and just posted good news. Keep posting and enjoy the Forum. :)
Hope you enjoyed the vino tonight. I am having a nice chilled Chardonnay as I type.
.....we do love to have a good debate on here ;) :D :D :D
Slainte from Dublin x
Paddster I have never gone away I am still part of the forum in the enviroment section :-* :-* :-*
Two Persons
Dont delete it, it was an important post and needs to remain. People, especially, with kids do need to know these things, which are relevant to just about every beach everywhere in the world..Thanks
You put your "Brave Hat" on yesterday Glen!
I have been following this thread and the Health warning/ Rats thread which has now been deleted.
I agree with you Voldermort and you Fifi this posting shouldn't have been deleted. It is a forum for both
the good and the bad aspects of Fuerteventura. If there is a problem then it should be addressed not brushed under the carpet. Rats are a major problem world wide for everyone. People with children should be warned of the dangers of using the stone pots on the beaches.
If you are reading this Two persons you should put your post back on again it is relevant!!
Mawbeef :(
I´ve been here nearly 20 years and NEVER seen a Rat (Rodent) in a bunker. There, is that Positive 8)
I´ve seen a few rats around bins at the backs of certain Restaurants in Caleta though :'( (names withheld)
You don't expect to find one in a Surrey hospital, but..........
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/02/27/rat-attack-on-surrey-hospital_n_1303460.html (http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/02/27/rat-attack-on-surrey-hospital_n_1303460.html)
So let's get the "rat thing" in perspective!
Hi Woe,
So you have been here nearly 20 years and not seen a rat in the bunkers, maybe you should go to spec savers!! lol.......
Do you remember Arnie the German chap who used to live in a bunker on flag beach from late Sept through til late April early May, well a couple who used that bunker after it was cleaned out when he left in 2010 saw 2 rats living in there. We also saw the rats in there and they were not small ones.... Rats were also spotted in a couple of other bunkers on that same beach. In 2011 we were on the beach south of the Riu hotels where Reynaldo's beach cafe is and again rats were spotted in the bunkers there. Again this year whilst back on the same beach talking to some friends a rat ran across the opening into their bunker. Friends have just returned from Corralejo and have seen rats in the bunkers on the dunes. The small foot prints you see in the bunkers if you get to the beach early enough in the mornings are rats. We stupidly thought they were lizzards when we first started using the bunkers, couldn't believe our eye's when we saw rats!!!
Anyway yet again I originally posted this to warn people of the health implications, especially family's with small children.
I know that this is not a positive posting but people do need to be warned. Fuerteventura is a lovely place, warts and all and we will still visit as often as we can.....

Unfortunately the negatives go with the positives Glenys .
Its only fair people see both sides for anything not just fuerty.
I actually think for one the advise about the rats were very important and needed saying.
Ive been going fuerty now for 20 years and i have to say its nowhere near what it was and that includes the "gimme your euros lot" Personally im off elsewhere for holidays, to where the people who run businesses are nicer , respectful and are grateful for your custom.
IMO when the businesses in fuerty learn this the better fuerty will be once again.
But if I for one after 20 years take my euros elsewhere then there must be many more also .
In effect if this is the case then i only see poor old fuerty getting poorer and going downhill fast.
Lastly i know people who have bought and live there and understand the problems and wish you all the best but unfortunately the money men of fuerty want your euros but don't want you. In my book that's racism!!
Sorry but needed saying, freedom of speech and all that, you cant just post nice things just because it suits!!. All the best.
Pete
I seen a dirty rat in a bunker once in Fuerteventura. He kicked the ball out when he tought nobody was looking.
It must be a better idea to have someone to read the truth here and be forewarned than suffer from ignorance and do worse by word of mouth.
The number of times I've seen a business slagged off only to be defended by many more which then shows that the original poster might be the problem and not their experience, though granted some maybe just unlucky (eg a bad meal)
It's ironic that so-called money men here are highlighted when the real money men who stripped a whole economy are in the UK which have affected this island more than anyone here.
Well that stirred things up a bit didn't it...... ;)

I didn't refer to two persons posting at all and would like to say I quite agree it was a genuine warning and SHOULD have been posted on here. So Admin could you please re-post it. I always like a good debate and certainly got a good one going here. I am a great believer in free speech and do it all the time.
Butchbuildersinc, I'm sorry about your bad experiences in Fuerteventura but I hope you have a great holiday wherever you go. ;D
dagwood....loved your posting,it did make me chuckle.

Hi glenys
Its not bad experiences ive had in fuerty its a lovely tranquil place . Its the attitude of the spanish thats really done it for me. ie: smile for your euros and call you blind if you dont spend with them lol
Still its their loss and someone elses gain i guess .
I fancied a change anyway this year so im off to singapore and australia in october and november, and in 3 weeks im off to Skegness for a week in a 9 berth cartavan with kids and grandkids lol, in a funny way im looking forward to that most of all.
butchbuildersinc. That sounds like a fabulous holiday but I'm sure you will have a fantastic time with all your family too. Caravan holiday's are just the best.....have a lovely time. :)
I thought this was a forum about Fuerteventura, with all its good and bad points. Nowhere on earth is perfect.
By lunchtime tomorrow we'll be at El Caleton for a week, before moving on to Infiniti for another week. When we get back we'll have plenty of positive postings to share.
If you see us on the beach, do come and say Hi. You can't miss us!!!
Why are you 2 rats ? ;)
