That's a graphics card problem. If you have a hot air gun it can be fixed with it, but it's only a temporary fix. I have the same problem but I can't find a hot air gun.
I assume it is a laptop. For a quick diagnosis will it work on an external monitor......also try shining a bright torch directly at the screen and see if you can see a feint image on the screen (basically your desktop theme) If you can then it is most likely the display backlight which can be changed fairly easily.....if not then could be graphics or more likely cabling a bit loose or the connector joints need re-balling.
