http://www.fuerteventuradiario.com/?p=17729 (http://www.fuerteventuradiario.com/?p=17729)
And what happens on Sat & Sundays???? are these for the local council officials?????
thanks for this!
Can you translate the second part of the announcement please? I get a very strange result using my online translator!
The municipal swimming pool users may use Monday through Friday from 8: 00 to 20: 00 hours, while you can rent paddle tracks of lunea to Sunday from 10: 00 to 22: 00 hours (the last reserve). The phone number for information is 606.976.560.
And what about Saturdays - closed??
this may be the answer to what all the water carrying trucks were up to a couple of weeks ago - filling up outside Mercadona in a constant procession! :o
The 2nd part is that the Paddle Tennis Courts are open from Mon - Sun from 10am - 10pm.
Thanks,
'Paddle' tennis? I thought that's what we played on the beach as the tide came in! :D
I'll walk/drive round in the next day or two and see what's happening.
Padel (yes that's how its spelt) is played on a small court with a net, the court is surrounded by glass so it ends up as a hybrid of tennis and squash with the ball bouncing off the walls. The "racket" is called a blade and is solid with holes in it (no strings) and the ball is more like a tennis ball than a squash ball. If no-one is playing on the new courts, the court at Bahia Azul is often in use and you can watch from the road beside the restaurant.
Thanks for the explanation Colin.
Just been round for a look at the pool - looked very nice, only 2 people in there.
General info:
Park at the top and walk down - the road gets pretty narrow further down and there is only parking for a few vehicles at the bottom by the reception.
Opening hours for the pool:
Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm
Sat & Sun 10am - 8pm
Prices for residents:
1 day - €3
5 day bono - €10 (any days, don't have to be consecutive)
10 day bono - €18 (as above)
20 day bono - €32 (as above)
or
1 calendar month, ie September 1st - 30th is €15
Different prices for children and non-residents but the piece of paper wasn't big enough to jot anymore down and no information sheets available to take away.
I'm pleased it's open at the weekends :D
It didn't show that on my original link.
Is building swimming pools in Fuerte not a bit like building childrens sand pits in the desert? ???
lol ;D
We use a pool for exercise when the sea is too rough for serious swimming. Much prefer it when we can use the sea though.
Did you get an idea of what's there, Tamara? It looks to be a nice outdoor pool, but is there somewhere to get drinks? Anything softer than concrete to sunbathe on? If they're selling tickets for the day, perhaps there's more to do there than just swimming.
Or maybe it's just somewhere to go for a bit of exercise then off to a bar for a drink. I hope the schools will use it. Don't often see people really swimming in the sea here, probably because it's a bit rough for a lot of people (me included) and anyway "messing about" in the sea is so much more fun. :) But it's good for kids to learn how to really swim. Do we know if it will be heated in the winter, or even open?
I'll try to get some answers and post them here.
It's all very well opening it but it is so out of the way, with Mercadona in the same area it is about time the Rosario bus diverted to Parque Natural. Since we moved here the bus has diverted to cover Tamarindo and if the taxi drivers don't like it, tough. But this is corrupt old Spain so no doubt nothing will happen.
I could see some sunbeds but I didn't go inside so I'm not sure what other facilities are there.
have i read that right
20 day bono €32
1 calender month €15
yep - you read it right. It does make sense really - they are making it affordable for people who swim seriously, ie most days. Remember, these are resident's prices.
I had to go to Mercadona today so I went round to have a look at the new pool. Only problem was that the building which I thought housed the pool is actually a secondary school. ::) :-[
So, where is it? Tamara, you said
Quote"Park at the top and walk down - the road gets pretty narrow further down and there is only parking for a few vehicles at the bottom by the reception."
Top of what?
Hi Sheila
Caught me out the first time as well! They've hidden it pretty well, down behind the canyon.
When you come out of Mercadona turn right. Turn right at the roundabout in front of Bahiazul. A short way along there on your right you will see a turning through a gate with a short bit of wall on either side. The parking is the area right there through the gate. The track then leads away from the far side of the parking area, down to the pool buildings. ;D
Meant to post about this a few weeks ago. Went up there for a mooch around and saw that the pool was half full and there were a few work men around. Good news that it's finally opened.
Update on facilities:
Half dozen sunbeds, 2 picnic tables (but no food allowed, at least I think that is what the sign said!), no smoking, outdoor showers (not working today), Indoors: changing cubicles and changing room, 6 lockers, loos, showers, basins (on ladies side, presume gents the same.) Reception: tv, ice cream.
To sign up for the 'Socio' you need copies of the following docs, as per the norm out here! Passport, Health card, bank doc showing IBAN. At least, I think that's what the guy said - I'll find out tomorrow when I go back! Very nice helpful guy on reception who also doubled as lifeguard. Only a little English but tried very hard, really wanted to help.
The pool was good with roped off lanes to keep us from bumping into each other. Only 4 people using it when I was there (on a Saturday morning.). Swimming caps must be worn if you have any hair (caps provided if you don't have your own - cap that is!). Could only just touch the bottom at the shallow end. I think it is 50M long - seemed like a long way! Strong glare off the water in one direction, I'll be looking for tinted goggles. Water was 25 degrees today - bliss! :D Vertical metal steps in/out pool at regular intervals - no staircase type steps or gradual slope.
You can see from the top car park if there are any spaces by reception, room for 6 - 8 vehicles by reception.
Apart from the padel tennis there is nothing else there - no kids play area, no water slides etc, no cafe.
Hope this helps anyone else thinking of giving it a try.
Thanks, Tamara. Doesn't sound like you're supposed to enjoy your visit too much! Do they provide birch twigs too? :o ;D
Still, I might go round sometime and try my limited Spanish on that patient man. I'd really like to do some swimming now that osteoporosis and arthritis have put paid to most other activities (don't get old, you lot! >:( >:() and frankly, I find the sea around here a little frightening most of the time.
25 degree that does not sound too inviting. The outdoor pool in Gourock is salt water heated to 29 degree. Lovely and wonderful in the rain as few people venture there when raining. Why do not know cos you are wet anyway?????

Wow!
What happened to Mercadona??? :o
It won't exist till Grafcan update the pics.
I went there today.
The pool is magnificent but there is little else there. The temperature was fine - and I'm a wimp regarding cold water.
There are soft drinks and ice creams available.
Swimming caps cost 1.50 to buy - don't pick black. I did and my head was baking even while swimming.
3 euros entrance - no papers needed but if you want to buy a bono then take photocopies of your green sheet.
