There are disadvantages on this matter, for example detrimental to the environment, pollution, eyesore.
And advantages, Revenue for the Canaries, income from rig workers and support staff, exporting any oil found, stops the Island having to import expensive oil.
Worse case scenario for me would be if there was a serious oil spill. Not only for the environment but to the Islands water supplies - desalination plant would have to be shut down - no water situation which could be for months on end. What would happen then?

The problem is that if Spain doesn't drill for oil then the Africans will. If Spain drill it at least any problems would be dealt with asap,but the African government wouldn't be so careful.

Massive amounts of oil found in Ghana recently, and Ghana isn't that far away.
For those prepared to take a gamble......buy some share in a company called Clontarf (CLON). An Irish company owned by John Tealing. They are waiting for ratification to explore an area next to a known massive oil field owned by Tullow. Clon's shares are 2.5p each. Tullows are £15. If CLON hit oil, they will go to the same as Tullows. !! But, if they hit dust you ;lose yer money.
Of course - do your own research folks. I'm very good at losing money on the stock market. :D 8)

Are you sure, we are talking Fuerteventura here where they cant get a simple thing like delivering letters right, lol.
Globetrotter , I get mail here weekly from the UK, I depend on it, the majority of it on time ie within 4 days and in good condition, hand delivered by a friendly postman with a smile and time for a chat. I think they do letters rather well here

Not if you live on the golf course where there are 2 numbers to each house or Nuevo, we have friends that live on both sites and the only
regular mail they get are bills (strange that)
Our friend in Nuevo sent us a Christmas card well before Christmas, it arrived quite promptly in February.
