Post by: fifi on July 24, 2012, 23:06:30 PM

What is a Spanish Resident Discount?

In order to be eligible for the 50% discount for residents, passengers must be either Spanish citizens, citizens of other member states of the European Union or citizens of other States that are members of the European Economic Area who can prove that they are resident in the Balearic or Canary Islands and who are travelling between their place of residence to any other part of Spain, or Ceuta residents travelling between Sevilla, Malaga or Jerez to any other part of Spain.  Spanish Resident and Family Discounts are not applicable on EXTRA seats.  If any of the passengers is not a resident they should book separately.

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION** for travel from 1st September 2012

CHANGES HAVE BEEN ANNOUCED BY THE SPANISH MINISTRY WHICH CONCERN ALL PASSENGERS WHO HAVE OBTAINED A RESIDENT DISCOUNT.
FROM THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER 2012 ONWARDS PASSENGERS WILL ONLY BE PERMITTED TO TRAVEL ON THE PRODUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING FORMS OF ID:

CERTIFICATE OF RESIDENCE ISSUED BY THE TOWN OR CITY COUNCIL AS PROOF OF RESIDENCE
OR
VALID CREDENTIALS FOR MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT/SENATORS, WHOSE CONSTITUENCY IS IN THE BALEARIC, CANARY ISLANDS OR CEUTA REGION.

AND

A VALID PASSPORT OR NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD.

WE URGENTLY REQUIRE ALL PASSENGERS TRAVELLING FROM THE 1ST OF SEPTEMBER 2012 WHO HAVE AVAILED OF A RESIDENT DISCOUNT TO OBTAIN A RESIDENTS CERTIFICATE.
YOUR IDENTIFICATION MUST REMAIN VALID UNTIL AFTER YOUR JOURNEY HAS COMPLETED.
A DNI OR NIE CARD WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED AS PROOF OF RESIDENCE (EVEN IF USED FOR ID AT THE POINT OF PURCHASE).
VALIDATION WILL MADE AT THE AIRPORT AND PASSENGERS WHO CANNOT PRODUCE A CERTIFICATE OF RESIDENCE OR PARLIAMENT/SENATORS CREDENTIALS FROM 1ST SEPTEMBER ONWARDS WILL BE DENIED BOARDING.

Information for travel up to the 31st August 2012 only
Proof of residence is to be provided by means of a national identity document or, in the case of citizens of the European Union or the European Economic Area, a valid residence card showing the address that entitles the holder to the discount. Residents whose national ID document does not feature an address or children under 14 who do not have a national ID document must present a valid certificate of residence issued by the town or city council. Members of the Parliament/Senate whose constituency is in the Balearic, Canary Islands or Ceuta region are to present the relevant credentials from the parliament.

Passengers receiving the resident's discount should present the required valid proof of residence at the airport which must remain in force until at least the date on which the booked travel ends.

Passengers will be asked to present their valid proof of residence at the point of check-in and at the boarding gate (along with the required travel document for their Ryanair flight).

Ryanair will refuse to allow passengers with discounted tickets to board if they are unable to provide their valid proof of residence which matches the details provided to us at the time of booking (along with the required travel document required to travel on a Ryanair flight).

"CERTIFICATE OF RESIDENCE ISSUED BY THE TOWN OR CITY COUNCIL AS PROOF OF RESIDENCE"

Probably the million dollar question, is this the Padron issued by the town hall in Caleta? Has anyone been brave enough to try to avail of the discount with Ryanair :o

Yet another blatant discrimination against fellow eu members or put it another way rip the tourist off it should be banned after all Spanish tourists visiting other eu states get the same deal as the residents of the country they are visiting.

Thanks Fi, wish I'd read your post earlier as I booked flights back to Dublin from Fue via Madrid today and I could have saved a few euro. Having said that, Fue to Dub direct was €311 one way whilst via Madrid was €140, so not too bad :D

Ryanair Calls On Spanish Govt To Prohibit Police Bringing Guns On Board Aircraft

Ryanair, Europe's only ultra-low cost airline, today (24Jul) called on the Spanish Govt to prohibit the unsafe regulation allowing police officers – even off-duty – bringing firearms onto domestic flights in Spain, after a Spanish policeman breached safety regulations by boarding a flight while secretly carrying a gun. Ryanair has formally complained to the Spanish Ambassador to Ireland, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Spanish Govt and has reported the officer involved to the Spanish Police following the unsafe incident, which was a clear breach of Ryanair's – no guns – regulations and endangered the safety of all 173 passengers on the flight.

Ryanair's Stephen McNamara said:

"Passengers, including police officers or army personnel, are forbidden from bringing firearms onboard Irish-registered aircraft. Last week, a Spanish policeman boarded a Ryanair flight carrying a firearm. Ryanair has banned the passenger from travelling with Ryanair again. We have reported this safety breach to the Spanish Police and have lodged a complaint with the Spanish Ambassador to Ireland and the Department of Foreign Affairs. We have also complained to the Spanish Govt, who we are urging to take measures to prevent a repeat of such instances."

This is one way of dealing with it.

McNamara is only whinging because the copper didn't check in the gun and pay 60 Euro for the privelige! Would have loved to see the face of the boarding gate staff if they claimed he was over the weight limit :D

I went via East Midlands a few weeks back Dave. I booked late and it was nearly €300 one way via Dublin and only £59 from EM. Some of the English flights are much better value. I suppose you will be paying a visit to McDonalds in Madrid again ;) :D

Dave/ Fifi all your dreams will be shattered if FR takes over Aer Lingus could you imagine the prices they would charge  they are a lot more expensive  now than the uk  but    god help you all if FR wins the battle.

I dont think it will happen John.  I had a look at the new Liverpool Winter schedule and they are even more expensive than the Dublin flights and  are almost twice the price of the Easyjet Liverpool flights. Strange.............maybe they will come down in price after a couple of days. Could they be playing games because they are not getting incentives for bringing in extra numbers any more? Less flights at twice the price. The same profit for them.............

Could be?

Well John, things have got so bad here it'll be easier to fly rather than take Public transport as the public transport company had to receive a €36 million injection to keep it afloat. Wonder if O'Leary would offer a service from South Dublin to North Dublin? Over on the 9th, will give you a buzz to meet for a drink, Dave
