A 1.9 mtr dish will NOT receive BBC 1 & 2, ITV etc on Fuerteventura, you will need at least a 3 mtr dish or larger, this will cost quite a large sum plus if on a complex you may not be allowed to erect one that size or maybe not one of any size, check out the Comunidad rules first. 8)
A 1.9 meter dish will get itv1 plus hd 234 but not bbc you can get bbc sport on frequency 11954 H. The "stream" channels are now (currently) listed as and look for the channel marked 6711 6712 6713 6714 6715.
in the the fuerte extra paper there is a company advertising all the channels i have listed plus many more besides with no monthly or annual payements it seems too good to be true but i will call them and find out more
The good news - with a well aligned 1.8 or 1.9 metre dish and a good HD Sky Digibox for fringe reception, you can receive BBC & ITV from Astra 1N.
The bad news - Astra 1N is only being used on a temporary basis (a reputable satellite installer should know this) and will be replaced by Astra 2E, 2F & 2G starting later this year. Until these new satellites are in orbit, no one knows if they will be receivable in Fuerte. You could end up buying a 1.9 metre dish that will be redundant within a year.

The 1.9m receives all the channels you would receive in the UK.
But in fact the new satellite is due to go up before the end of the year so it could be a matter of months, it's very doubtful that any reputable installer would be unaware of this.
Not so good if you've just shelved out seven hundred euro odd for one without warning but even worse if ITV, 4 & 5 become available on a small dish as before which is more than likely since they are ad supported.
BBC though has still not changed it's policy of UK only so with the new technology of the new satellite it may be unavailable even on the huge 3m odd dishes here.
This year seems much worse so far than years before and the extra income would be nice especially as many calls I've had are first timers but hopefully it will pan out in the end.
At least zappa is giving the honest answer. Yes a 1.9 will get everything on astra 1n for now but the replacement bird is due for launch on Sept 14th. Allow a couple of months for function testing and then a short time for positioning to 28.2 degrees . Then transponder testing for a while which should take us up to december. Sky and Freeview (the principal clients of the satellite) usually do not carry out any changes to their network after about december 12th (in case they male bird it all up for xmas) and so therefore it is likely that the channels will all switch across to the new bird about mid january. However if testing finishes early then may be all change before xmas.
As stated nobody really knows what size dish will be needed once the new asta 2e,f,g, birds come on line but a lot of reputable installers are thinking along the lines of similar to the previous astra 2D because although the output power of the new birds is higher, beam shaping technology has come on a long way in the 10 or so years since 2d became live. Out on the fringe the beam is always in the lap of the gods as even a 0.1mm imperfection in the transmitting dish on the satellite can be the difference between signal or no signal.
We will only know for certain once the transponders are lit up and reports start coming in from all over the canaries as to what everyone is receiving and what size dish they are using (although even within the canaries the results vary).
I suppose that those with the 1.9 dishes can hope that the new bird explodes on launch (as has happened in the past). Either that or get ready for some really big paella parties as that is about all the dish will be good for ;D
At least once everything settles down then we will know exactly what is needed and this should then be good for at least 10 years (the new 2 series birds have a lifespan of about 15 years i think).
Twice yesterday I heard that some installers guaranteed the 1.9m for two years as SES (the service provider) intend to hang on to Astra 1N.
But SES still has the original info on their site that it is being relocated, the new 2F is on target for 14 sept launch and new sats are normally up and running within 4 months so it looks to be broadcasting as fwm says before or just after the new year as they claim to be on schedule.
There are two further sats to be launched between next year and the year after, the first is for back up only and the other for expansion which could be used. It's unlikely they would borrow a sat from another location for that long as I can't see any more launches for that location; 19.2 east.
I have sent a couple of emails to SES so I will update this if I get a reply. At present all the info says nothing has changed.
If anyone would like to pay me for a 1.9 I'd be more than happy to install it and then see if I can interest you in Tower Bridge, I know it's been sold before but you can't believe everything you read. :P

As the frequency of 12.207 is one of the stronger signals what has happened to it.
With a 1.1 dish and an HD box (DRX890z), I get ITV1 and ITV1+1 via other channels.
ITV2, 3 and 4, Ch4 and Ch5, all HD are on the EPG.
Sky news on 501 is now HD. SD is I think 517.

Update on satellite situation.
Astra 2F is still on schedule for Sept 21 launch. From information being published by SES/Astra it would seem that Astra 1N needs to get back to 19 degrees asap so it looks as if Astra 2F will become operational very soon. Astra 2F is also supplying some services for France which have been published as coming live in mid November so it could all happen around then. Almost certainly looks like the switchover will occur before xmas.
Also at 28.5 degrees eurobird looks to be struggling at the end of its lifespan, a temporary backup is in place but that also has its problems....this is actually good news as SKY may well switch all their channels onto 2F european beam so those with subscriptions could get some more channels.
Could be an interesting time when the coverage reports start coming in from all over the canarias as we all find out exactly what size dishes we will need.
Personally I am waiting until the new year until I consider a new dish.

Only with a 1.9m at present.
At the moment they are showing a 1.2m dish for the European beam which is a set back for many people with a smaller dish. But I say at the moment as official figures are often pessimistic. All the channels from the temporary sat are to move to it but it is also going to be a major provider of the internet to France which of course will be taking a fair whack of the Euro beam bandwidth space.
And everyone please pray that they do not decide to frequency re-use on the africa beam....otherwise tonight on itv1 will be witchdoctor tv :-)....still probably more interesting than x-factor!
The new sat launch has been delayed one week till 21st Sept for additional checks. It's expected to begin broadcasting sometime late November.
Apparently there was a 1 gram discrepency in the weight due to dust from a inlet valve or something........think they need a better cleaning company!!!

Launch due tonight. Also it looks like the BBCi streams are cutting back and will disappear from 11954H and will be moving to the 2F UK spot beam....bad news for those unable to fit the big dishes on their terrace.
2F sucessfully launched (unfortunately) and looks like due to start handover testing asap. Expect to see full handover and subsequent movement of channels from 1N sometime towards 21 Nov. Looks almost certain that the ´streams´will be moving to the UK spotbeam on 2f so not good for everyone over here.
