You can watch free TV online on filmon.com or there is a site called project free tv, we use it all the time, its excellent for watching programs from the first episode right up to today... it can be a dodgey at times but in general its fab

no but you can get it live on filmon and its free and you dont need any expat shield, just type filmon into your search engine and go to the page and click n the station you want to watch
I have zero problems with Expatshield.
Filmon isn't bad - it's a good service but depending on your connection it is possible to watch channels' official sites in HD using Expatshield. When watching on a laptop the difference is negligible but if you use a large screen Tv then the difference is apparent.

Expatshield can (and always could be) configured to use Firefox (or whichever browser you like) as default.
With Firefox (and others) you can install the Adblock Plus plugin which removes all of Expatshield's annoying banners.
With Expatshield you can watch all of the official online Tv channels - including the Sky channels (but not channels 4 & 5) plus the official catchups - BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Sky Player etc.
With BBC iPlayer you can pause or restart live BBC programmes or even go back a couple of hours. For example I like Formula 1 but for the last race I switched on about 2:15 and just restarted the programme on iPlayer - selected 1:00 pm and watched from the start of the race.
The quality is much better than Filmon's and doesn't have their giant logo top right..
For the non terrestrials eg Dave etc. - (and Channels 4 and 5 which don't have official live online sites) - then we use Filmon for those.

Getting back to the original topic - tvcatchup - Has anyone found a way to watch it in Fv? There's no point in suggesting Expatshield or the IP and Vpns - Tvcatchup uses very sophisticated filters to prevent them working. I'd love to find a way but as yet have failed.
Expat shield is fine as it works but not if you don't like spyware which is why it's free.
It also loads a program automatically without asking which tracks your movements and if it's an older pc can help slow it down.

Yes im using Beevpn as we speak. Get to watch everything I want to (mostly off SkyGo) with no trouble. I can also get it on my Ipad too, which is nice.!!

Im not sure what tv catch up is but you can access any website you want as the ip address comes through as a uk one so websites just think you are in the uk. It works perfect so im sure if tv catch up is like bbc iplayer or itv iplayer which only lets you access if you are running off a uk ip address then it will work.

You can actually share your connection with 2 other people simultaneously. Basically, if you have 6mb ADSL or above, you can watch 3 different channels at the same time on 3 different devices. It all depends on how many people are using a hotspot at the same time. I use Canarynet in Triquivijate and get an impressive 4 - 5mbps most times. You need around 1mbps and above to use a VPN, using Canarynet in Triquivijate, I have had very little problems, some buffering in the busy times but mostly perfect.

Hi Canarybid in Nuevo have used canary net but no signal when i go in apartment very frustrating,also breaks up when on balcony..Idont have a land line(not out enough :( ).So will have to try something different.However we are out for 3wks shortly.Not too clued up on technology ;D

I have one here in Triquivijate that is similar and it work great with Canarynet from some distance. It will boost the Canarynet signal in Horizonte no problems at all. I cant guarantee that you could watch TV with it, but I will give you a free week when you are here so you can test it, just contact me from the website when you are here. I've been trying to use expatshield to watch UK TV - it used to be OK but lately I've found it impossiblke to watch anything with it as it is constantly stalling and bufferring, watch for 10 second, wait 30 seconds for next ten second segment - useless...
I use Pirate bay to download programs, films etc, and then watch on my big screen.

We have been having some problems recently with expatshield (although, for some reason, it has been fine for the last few days.)
What I have found is that, if you have a problem with the pink whirly thing, stop the programme, go back to the point where it lets you play and turn expat off before you play. Hey presto - it works.
What I cannot get my head around is why I can't pay the BBC an annual subscription to watch iPlayer without having to use expatshield. It would be simple to set up, with a password required to log on and they would make a fortune from people living, or visiting, outside of UK.
Am I missing something??

Expatshield is using free proxies and most certainly being overloaded. If you want to watch UK TV online without buffering, you need a VPN which is what my business is about ;) Anyone who wants a free 24 hour trial, contact me.

Still all seems crazy to me, Don't the BBC realise that there are a lot of people who watch their channels abroad but have to pay someone else for the priviledge?
Surely, they should either let us watch (quite happy to pay a subcription) or do something to stop their channels being broadcast abroad in contravention of "rights issues".
It is part of living away from the UK, would you expect Spain to allow the whole of UK to watch Spanish channels? Why cant we get every Premier league football match in UK but you can in UAE?
Servers are expensive and even I have to pay for every person who uses each server, adding more on demand. We currently have 7 UK servers to cope with demand. BBC would need to add their own new servers to allow the usage abroad but also you wouldn´t get all the programs as many do not have the rights to be viewed outside the UK. So even if BBC wanted to have people access their services from abroad, it would be too costly for them with rights issues and demand for servers on a wider scale than a small VPN business like mine.
As for my business, I pay my taxes, social security and feed my family. I have taken a opportunity to make a lot of tourists and expats happy, pay into the system here and feed my family. I have been running my business for over 4 years now and worked damn hard to get it where it is.
Now why dont you stop moaning about rights issues, either move back to UK or pay to watch TV! You have a TV license? If you have a TV license, you are not breaking any rights issues using a legal VPN service to watch UK TV from abroad. Lots of people here have Sky, Dubai Sports, Freeview etc etc, do you want to stop all of them too? Do you want to stop me from feeding my family by making a business obsolete and many others? Sounds to me like you have been here for 5 minutes and you have a lot to learn!!!

If you calm down for a minute and read my posts, I don't think you will find that I am complaining about anything. I was just asking why the BBC won't allow people overseas to watch their channels, even if they are prepared to pay them. I spend most of my time watching local TV but it is nice to watch something else now and again.
We have people bringing laptops and iPads from UK and they can't watch, even though they have paid a licence fee, so sorry if it still doesn't make sense to me.

With respect to the type of service that you offer, surely the TV companies would want to block it, if there were legal issues involved.
I agree that it should be possible for ex-pats to buy in to UK TV. Until then it's Film On or our solution for the last 4 years:- a VPN. At about 20 Euros for three months consult-here works well, and is particularly good for downloading from the BBC i-player. As we are not paying a UK TV licence we regard this as one of the costs of not living there!
