Just returned from Fuerteventura in Costa Calma, had a wonderfull time. Visited water Park, where daddy got very burned, Oasis Park, and sea lion show and garden center. Amazed to see a coconut tree growing there. . Costa Calma Amazing, but they say Jandia is best beach on island, and more things to do ?? Is that true?
Corralejo beach, how nice is that? is it really windy on beach? is there any shallow areas there where children can paddle and play? I hear up there they get a lot of red dust clouds?
The spanish are so friendly with children.
So of Jandia beach, Costa Calma beach in bay, or Corralejo beach, which is number one, considering beach with no pebbles. child friendly and shallow areas for children?
We liked Costa Calm a beach, lovely white sand, clear sea and great for children. Beach deck chairs there were 12 euros for the day, which i thought was very steep.
Hi Island Beach,
Glad you had a lovely time. Sounds like you travelled around the island quite a bit.
I'm a Corralejo fan and love Waikiki beach - and of course the Dunes when windsurfing.
Each to their own - of course - but Corralejo appeals because in the evenings I love walking into town and listening to live music and dancing, whilst also supporting the local business' by buying lots of cold beer. ;D ;D ;D 8)
Surf James
Corralejo sounds perfect
Not thinking about surfing now, are there any shallow areas for young children to play in?
Any areas protected more from the wind?
Just out of interest , in the south you have the Oasis Park garden center, they sell many different types of palms, question is , is there any garden center of place up north in Corralejo area where you can buy palms and plants?
Can you reccomend any child friendly sports bars, where we can watch world cup football ?
I loved the fuerteventura airport, again child friendly with play area. Very stuffy though. The supermarkets are they any good?
The best supermarket in Corralejo is Mercadona open 9.15am to 9.15pm every day, car parking for 200 cars and dont forget 1 euro coin for the trolley Huge fish counter, not so great on fresh veg but plenty of fruit. They also sell gluten free products, best value supermarket in town.

There's a garden centre just on the 1st roundabout in Corralejo - opposite the football ground.
Can you remember the name of Garden Center ?
If you're concerned about the sea and your children, The lagoons at Cotillo might be your best best.
They're considered reasonably safe, although if the tide is going out you need to be a little cautious.
Someone else with more knowledge might be better placed to give you accurate information. 8)
Island Beach
For your information in Corralejo there are about four different beach areas
Town Beach which is quite shallow and used quite a lot by the locals
another beach by the Hoplaco centre again very shallow
Waikiki beach shallow and also has sunbeds to rent
and the "Grandes Playa" spectacular beach used predominantly by surfers/wind surfers
regarding your question on child friendly sports bars
our own favorite is "The Corner House" highly rated by trip adviser
its run by a family of geordies and Dave Brown (Co-owner) is very good with the kids
dishing out free chocolate bars and lollipops whenever possible
four TV's usually showing four different premier league matches at the same time
give it a go don't think youll be disappointed
Wow sounds just perfect. Are all these beaches easy to get to?
And all beaches easy reach of resturants, gift shops , bars etc ?
I know the southern beaches of costa calma and jandia are well photograped. And corralejo beach too , which of the corralejo beaches are most stunning to the eye ?
Next trip to Fuerteventura will for sure be Corralejo region. I am getting a good feel of all island with holiday home/ retirement / in mind.
Love costa calma but very quiet, and many germans.
Never been to Jandia, say have best beach, but many nudests there.
Corralejo does sound just perfect.
Very impressed with the main roads there. Love the Spanish, great with children. Hope Spain beat Italy tonight.
The beach near Hotel Riu olivia beach looks really nice
Island Beach
Town Beach is surrounded by local restaurants serving anything from fresh fish to English type snacks (Burgers/sandwiches) as the name suggests its in the centre of the main old town
Hoplaco beach has two restaurants just about twenty yards from the beach
Waikiki beach has three restaurant/bars directly on the beach with one The Corintia having a happy hour at about 4 o'clock
Grandes Playa has a number of small kiosk type structures selling soft drinks and snacks dotted along its full length
the first three beaches are located by walking directly down the adjoining streets from "Calle La Red" on the main drag in corralejo but you will probably have to get a taxi or bus to Grandes Playa beach as it is a couple of miles outside town by the two large Riu hotels
Thanks, now i have complete picture of Corralejo.
Will you be watching Euro 2012 final tonight ?
Now to find some good real estate offering good design homes not too far from coast
And good garden center in Corralejo area. I saw Oasis park, very nice and saw a coconut palm growing there. And will look for pool builders and designed offered.
I left Fuerteventura with a very good feeling, and look forward very much to our first Corralejo visit.
And thanks for all your kind info given.
I have noted it all.
I took my son to baku water park, was we close to the town beach ?
My boy loved it there. I know he now has many happy memories
You were on the right road
Just continue down the road that Baku water park is on right to the very bottom
at the bottom you will come to a petrol station
turn right at the petrol station towards the seafront
its about twenty yards in front of you
hope this helps
unfortunately we flew home from Fuerte last Wednesday night so had to watch the final back in the UK
but managed to watch two of Englands games in the "Corner House Sports Bar"
as i mentioned in a previous post its my favourite for watching the football
Corner house sounds great, will pop in next time. I can imagine watching big games there like world cup etc.
We left costa calma on june 27th. So sad to leave.
So next to plan next years trip to Corralejo. I am looking to buy holiday home and so see'ing both south and north of island will give me idea where most suitable to buy.
Be nice to meet up with some of you guys next year? Perhaps in corner house.
Did it take you long getting used to driving on the other side of road, ? Roundabouts must be tricky?
I wondered if possible to hire out scooters on island?
Is it true you can ride without crash helmet?
One thing i really liked about Fueteventura, not one mossie bite for me or son. Unlike caribbean where we got eaten alive.
I've not actually found anywhere that has seemed unfriendly to kids, although I might not take them into the disco/kareoke area upstairs in the Atlantic Sol complex - it could harm their eardrums. Mine have grown up now, but I've seen kids of all ages in the bars and live music spots, even quite late at night. The places surrounding the aptly-named Music Square are particularly nice for kids. We often go there early evening before hitting other places, and there are nearly always toddlers and older children bopping away and making friends (of all nationalities) in the square.
I had heard that the sea at El Cotillo can be a bit of a menace for safety sometimes, though I don't often go over there myself, but I do know that the lagoons are no good for swimming at low tide - no sea! I'm sure Corralejo Town Beach is perfectly safe: it shelves gently, the sea is absolutely bursting with various types of fish and it's always full of kids, mainly Spanish but allcomers welcome. Being surrounded by bars, there's never any problem with loos, Wi-fi, drinks and snacks either. If the kids are old enough, parents can sit in front of a bar with a beer and still keep a close eye on them. Just about perfect, IMO.

You soon get used to driving on the wrong side, roundabouts are no problem as it would feel very strange to turn left especially on large roundabouts. Biggest problem I've found is when you park on the wrong side of the road so the drivers door is on the pavement side. There's a tendency to get in the wrong seat and find oops no steering wheel, very embarassing if someone is watching.
wow yes can imagine.
You have any idea if the Blue Sea Dunas Caleta Club in Corralejo is a good place to stay ?
I must admit to preferring the south of the island best ie Puerto Del Rosario down, saying that the whole island is great, its just a shame there isn't a little more investment.
Without question the beaches of Costa Calma and Jandia are amazing
Are the Corralejo beach equally as good ?
