We know there are or will be bugs and some missing posts.
Please let us know of any quirks or bugs and what you think of the new format and features.
I think you should have communicated this change better and realised how alarming it would be for members who haven't been on the forum for some time to get an email out of the blue informing an unsolicited password change
Well we did make it clear on the old site for some time that the change was a coming.
To communicate with members who haven't used the forum for a while we would have to have sent them an unsolicited email.
Catch 22.
We have tried to make the transition as painless as possible but the new password thing was not our decision - it was a consequence of changing the software.
Sorry for any inconvenience or alarm.
:) are there to be no posts / threads after june 16th. All looks great with new site tho
thanks
Quoteare there to be no posts / threads after june 16th.
Afraid not. The database had to be converted from the old format and our expert ran into problems taking much longer than he or we expected.
So what was converted was the database at that date.
:( i'd 106 posts now back to newbie. celebrated my 50th with a thread.please please please upgrade
Shazam ! :)
:( :( :( :( :(.....made a complete pigs ear of it in my view.....what's all the posts from 2007 about?.....did no one think to back up recent topics (i.e. 2012) on queries and questions?
Hmm.. I hadn't thought about this one, this is Brightspark by the way....
I never updated my email on my account, so the new password is lost in cyberspace.
Any ideas admin?
Brightspark - send us an email with another email address (not the one you're using for lagerassassin) and I'll update the Brightspark profile
Quote.....made a complete pigs ear of it in my view.....
yup
Quotewhat's all the posts from 2007 about?.....
Can't remember.
Quotedid no one think to back up recent topics (i.e. 2012) on queries and questions?
Yup we did.
We tried for a week to convert the forum ourselves. We couldn't do it.
We employed the leading database conversion experts in the US to do it. They estimated it would take 24 hours. After a week they presented us with what we now have, admitting failure themselves.
We do still have backups of everything but for now we will leave it as it is. If and when we feel we can restore those posts, we shall.
We are sorry.
Sorted, cheers admin :)
Loving the new forum by the way!!

What you thought was spam was us letting you know.
We should have phrased it better but we'd already sent out 12,000+ mails before we realised it was open to misinterpretation.
We are sorry.

I bet it's the one playing jingle bells.....
They're controlled by google, not really a fault of the forum
It's looking good, can we upload our own avatars though instead of having to use stock ones?
QuoteI bet it's the one playing jingle bells.....
I hate that chap whose parents weren't married when he was born thing.
QuoteIt's looking good, can we upload our own avatars though instead of having to use stock ones?
Not unless you are a Legend or Demigod I'm afraid.
We will be adding more avatars to the stock though.
Suggest a theme and we'll see what we can do.

don't think I've seen that one, I just keep getting the jingle bells one lately
"Omg you have won!!! click here before the time expires" blah blah blah
Jingle bells in June......
Must be a spanish thing :o
A bit weird at the moment, but I'm sure once new threads are started we'll get used to it.
My favorite "Active Topics" tab has gone!!.....used to use that all the time for a quick browse. Or maybe, I am looking in the wrong place?
Site looks fine, but not happy if the AT tab has gone!
Same as Annie ^ but I`m sure we will all get used to it, looks ok at first glance, bet a lot of midnight oil was burned getting it this far! well done to all concerned.

It's not exactly the same but just under the forum logo next to your name and icon , there should be links for :
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
If you don't see that, there's a wee blue arrow at the top right of the forum - it reveals / hides that area.
If that's not good enough let me know - the good thing about this new forum software is that there are many 'mods' which we can look at to see if there's something more akin to what you want.
Wow....fantastic new Forum Admin.
Well done. I'm impressed. :) 8)
I think the only thing I would change is the redirect after posting a reply to send you to the thread you posted in instead of sending you back to the index page, I remember this is a feature with SMF but can't remember if there was a setting to change it
If not I'm pretty sure there's a mod for it.
Just a suggestion
8) 8) 8) looks good to me and seems a lot faster 8) 8) 8)
brightspark - I'll look into that.
mit1964 - thanks for your help last month - much appreciated

haha! that was quick
and testing....
Disappointed about the loss of old topics/replies etc but a more modern Forum and looks a little easier to use , similar to lots of others we use.
Very nice
. . . although I'd prefer the timings to be 24 hour format rather than am/pm
Think it's sound. Well done admin for a smooth transition.
I'm not sure....... :-\
wheres the active topics
Sitting here in dark and drab old blighty the menu backgrounds (washed out blue with white text) look a bit like my Cornish tan (faded) could prove hard to read in strong sunlight! But i'm all for moving on and making changes. Keep claim and plod on with developments and don't listen to the squeals!
could use a bold typeface for the headlines of posts similar to the word 'today'
otherwise looks ok.
appy - you're shouting!

Think a 24 hour clock would be better than the current 09:44 pm one.
alibali and Carlo - So be it.
Cheers ;)

Admin, just letting you know that the clock is an hour slow now.
Sorted . thanks Carlo.
I prefer the old Forum to be honest. I am sure that I will get used to this one in time though.
I'm with Fi on this one, suppose i'll get used to it though...... :-\ :-\ ::)
Jury out on this one till I get home and see if it's easier on the pc ,on iPad over here
Made the jump across!! Phew! Nearly tripped!! Lokks great to us! Good work Admin 8)
Still trying to get my chops around it ;) but seems cool so far ... once it keeps the handbag sellers and mail order grooms/brides at bay !
Good work
is there anyway and individual member can be blocked for there post to be seen, some forums have that function. just need to get shut of a few pests thats all ;D
Quoteis there anyway and individual member can be blocked for there post to be seen
Do you mean can you somehow exclude your choice of members' posts from being visible by yourself ?
Or can we delete certain members' posts?
Used to it now and loving it. :) More functions to explore tomorrow. Well done to all concerned. :)

yes exclude my my choice of members from been visible by myself
Sadly my WALK post has not been able to be found, all my walkers (and there are a lot of us) are emailing me to ask where it is, I have tried to copy and paste it over to here without any luck. Maybe Admin could do that for me,it's an ongoing post and I shouldn't have to start from scratch again, it's a good job I set up another one on another forum, which incidentally I haven't had any trouble with, so please Admin can you put this right for us all.
Many thanks Whispa
whispa - sorry about that.
The old forum is still there so the posts haven't been lost.

If only it was a simple task of cutnpasting then we wouldn't be in the pickle we are.
May I suggest you do start a new thread on this version and include the above link in the first post.
If you do that I'll place a link to the new thread at the end of the old one.
I realise that solution is much less than perfect but I honestly can't think of a better one at the moment.
Thanks for that Admin, I'll give it a go, if you see a lot of steam going over the Island it's coming out of my ears!!!
We can't see anything but the steam that has emanated from ours !
I see you have restarted the thread.
I've placed the link to it at the end of the old one.
Quoteexclude my my choice of members from been visible by myself
I've had a search but as far as I can tell there is no mod or feature for such a thing.
Hi Admin, I wonder if Little Legs means that she would like to subscribe to individual posters comments or particular threads? There was an option to do that on the old Forum I think at one time although I never used it myself.
Or maybe as she says 'excludes' Dawn means blocking, like how if you block someone on facebook neither of you can see each others posts on threads, other friends walls etc (rather than 'de-friend' if you see what I mean) Quote
yes exclude my my choice of members from been visible by myself
I think I've got it.
There's an 'ignore list'
Profile / Account Settings / Modify Profile / Buddies/Ignore List / Edit Ignore List
Then just add the usernames of those you wish to ignore.
... and their posts will appear like this :

Im going to check the "Who is ignoring me function" to make sure you are not Barry. ;) :) :) :)
I am struggling with it. I find the post heading do not stand out. Suppose I wil get used to it but that will be when it is about to be changed again.
Getting to grips with it. Just wondering if a link to Fuerteventura Airport could put somewhere around Fuerteventura Maps etc.
Quotelink to Fuerteventura Airport could put somewhere around Fuerteventura Maps
Of course it is possible but then why not links for Corralejo, Caleta, Morro Jable etc?
All those places (and others) can be quickly found in Fuerteventura.com.
I am struggling to find items using the search facility and once you do to then gain access. I was going to check out Captain Sensibles calendar post to find out what was on over the next few weeks. Can you help?
Here it is tmacl :)
http://www.fuerteventura-forum.com/index.php?topic=6431.0 (http://www.fuerteventura-forum.com/index.php?topic=6431.0)
I think Cap'ns calender thread should really be made a sticky if possible Admin as a lot of people like checking it out, it'd be so much easier to find.
QuoteI think Cap'ns calender thread should really be made a sticky if possible Admin as a lot of people like checking it out, it'd be so much easier to find.
It is indeed an excellent thread.
My reluctance in making it sticky is that there is a new system built in to the new forum. The
Calendar feature is very neatly tied in to the
Events Topic.
i.e. Whenever anyone, the captain included, posts a new event on the Calendar, a corresponding and cross linked thread appears in the Events section. This method enables anyone looking at an event on the Calendar to jump immediately to its fuller description and thread in Events.
Captain's thread due to its all encompassing format makes it not quite as easy to find specific events by date plus it doesn't tie in with the Calendar. What I'll do though is move it to the Events section as that now seems a more logical place for it.
QuoteI am struggling to find items using the search facility and once you do to then gain access.
Can you elaborate on the problem of access please?
When I've tried the Search, it lists the relevant topics. To access, I click the Topic's title.
Hev has kindly found the link to 2012 Fuerteventura Calendar which I have been able to access. I tried searching using the word Calendar but didn't find this link. I have since searched using Fuerteventura calendar and it returns no links.
I see what you mean. I can't explain that other than guessing 'Calendar' on its own may be considered a 'default' word. Searching for e.g. 'Fuerteventura Calendar' does find it but 'Calendar' on its own doesn't (and the caps do seem to matter).
i like the new look forum but i dont like the fact i have been down graded to newbie :(
Sorted - admin
I really like the new feel, allbeit a bit strange. :o
But like everything new, the more you use it the more familiar you become, and soon it becomes second nature.
Looks like we will just have to spend more time here ;D
Congratulations Admin on the new look.
I look forward to trying out a lot of the new features. 8)
Thanks admin i like being called a Jr member at my age :) now i am up and about i will have to post a bit more to get another gold box ::)
I suppose, like anything else when you get used to something ( and I was still getting used to some of the features of the old site yet ..!!! :o ) , then change is something we all tend to resist...but as others have said, in time no doubt, we will get used to the new layout and enhanced features.
I'm Sure the change took a huge amount of work ....Good luck Admin.
Not sure yet , I posted a new topic last night and this morning I couldn't find it :'(
wesmin - sorry we should have pm'd you.
While we are sympathetic to your plight we can not allow such personal slights - right or wrong - on the forum for legal reasons.
Your case sounds as if it could well end up in the courts and posting prior to any such case could work against you.
Never received an email and wont let me log on, have tried various ways to contact for new password but all to no avail so now have created a new name etc but would still prefer my old one (gillgooding). Any chance of any help, please? Or I will have to ask my old friend ZZ to take up my case!
Took a while but I'm getting there now
