Does anyone know if bikes can be hired in Lajares?

Think your nearest will be Riders in Cotillo, ask for Anne or Willie.

Pretty sure magma hire bikes. They are  opposite the supermarket. If not there is a great shop in el cotillo where you hire for 24 hours so you can drive there say mid day and return the following day. Don't forget car keys like I did though!

The surf etc shop opposite the supermarket at the El Cotillo end of Lajares does seem to hire bicycles. I thought I'd noticed a sign there not that we're ever likely to want one.
