Some of these downpours are really, really local. I was in Corralejo earlier in full sun whereas at Tamaragua, no more than 4km away, they were having torrential rain. The sunny periods are really lovely - maybe just appreciating them more.

We've just returned from 11 days in Morro Jable. First 8 days were great - typical Fuerte weather that we've been used to for the last 5 autumns. However, on Wednesday things started changing with a strong westerly breeze which brought a few heavy showers, then all hell broke loose on Wednesday evening with incredible thunder and lightening, gale force winds and torrential rain. Same first thing on Thursday morning and then repeat performances on Thursday and Friday nights. During the day weather was generally ok - warm sunny spells.

The saddest thing was observing the damage to the pristine beaches along the Sotavento Coast between Morro Jable and Costa Calma. The flash flooding from the barrancos resulted in debris and mud entering the sea and 'staining' the beautiful white sands beaches. The rough seas has also wreaked havoc with major sand loss on many of the beaches between Risco and Esquinzo.

We really hope nature restores the situation as we are due back in March. :o

Flying in on Friday you could see the mud run off on both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Very red. Even worse yesterday coming down the hill into Puerto del Rosario from El Cotillo/La Oliva.

Still, only spent 5 hours yesterday putting together an Ikea bed.  >:(
